Bush Stonewalls on Abramoff Shots
ISIKOFF: As a general rule, if you’re
the president … you don’t like pictures out there of you with
convicted felons. It sounds like … there’s at least one picture
of him with at least one convicted felon and another indicted, so it’s
probably not a picture the White House is eager to have out there. The
other interesting aspect of this is, while the White House hasn’t put
these out, Jack Abramoff has clearly shown them to people. I don’t know
anything about Time sources, but I do know that he showed them to Washingtonian
magazine, which suggests he may be playing a little bit of a game here. He
has, of course, pled guilty already to the Justice Department. But it does
raise a question in my mind at least as to whether Abramoff is maybe sort
of sending some sort of signal out here: “Hey, I’ve got this stuff.”
Maybe he wants something from somebody at the White House, or he wants someone
at the White House not to do something, and just sort of subtly playing with
people here.
It was one of those yowza moments. I saw it
and smiled. It made so much sense.
But after stonewalling for days, McClellan now says the White
House won't release the half-dozen photos showing George W. Bush with Jack Abramoff.
Evidently, a lot of people have seen them.
If the White House can’t find the
photos, prosecutors already know where to look. The Washingtonian has seen
five photos of the President with Abramoff or his family. One photo shows
the President and Abramoff shaking hands at a meeting in the Old Executive
Office Building, where a bearded Abramoff introduced Bush to several of the
lobbyist’s native-American clients. Washingtonian
Frankly, after seeing clips of Scott's press gaggle, I want to
know why they're stalling and stonewalling. What's the big deal? If they did
a meet and greet, who cares?
But since the pictures are being kept “safe,” obviously
in some undisclosed location, you've got to wonder what they show.
We also know that the president knows Abramoff well enough to
ask him about his kids.
Oh, baby, but I want to see the art.
…tick-tock… tick-tock… Somebody has them and for the right price, at the right moment, they're going to give them up.
