OPERATION 9/11 = IRAQ BEGINS ANEW

OPERATION 9/11 = IRAQ BEGINS ANEW

Here we go again.
Using veterans to imbed a lie.
Who's behind the ad?

If we weren't fighting al Qaeda in Iraq,
we'd be fighting them in America. Our troops have captured thousands of al Qaeda
terrorists. In doing so, we're bringing freedom to people who knew only the
oppression of a brutal dictatorship. Eleven million Iraqis turned out to vote
in December's historic elections and brought their own representatives' voice
to the national government.

If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try to imbed the lie. Only this time, Republicans are using veterans to do it.

I respect every veteran who has served, every family who has sacrificed, but I will not stand by while the Republican Party uses our soldiers to defraud the American public again. The GOP's latest ad campaign makes me sad in the extreme. I honestly hoped, even prayed, we'd gotten past this point. I guess I was wrong.

Hotline reported the campaign last week.

The Progress
for America Voter Fund
has joined the political fight over the Iraq war,
broadcasting provocative television ads in MN this week and preparing to set
up state-based advocacy affiliates premised on changing public opinion about
Iraq before the '06 midterms.
Progress
For America Launches Major Iraq War Campaign

We're not likely to get any push back from them because Hotline
has evidently decided to take
out after progressives
. This is extremely disturbing because it's becoming
an epidemic, as we start gaining serious traction across the web.

This latest ad campaign is a new effort on an old Bush canard that got us into this
mess in the first place. It trades on the old Bush-Cheney neocon campaign, only
ups the ante using veterans to push the people's public emotion button.

Some oldies
but goodies
from the elephant's mouth. Ah, you scoff that I'm posting
these quotes yet again. Well, considering the new Republican ad, it's good to remind everyone
that these lies and the connection they falsely made to Saddam, actually led to war, a war we're still fighting with no way
out.

“(Iraq) has weapons of mass destruction. And the
battlefield has now shifted to America…”

President Bush, Remarks at OHS Complex, 9.19.02

“You can’t distinguish between al Qaeda
and Saddam when you talk about the war on terror.”

President Bush, Photo Opportunity, 9.25.02

“…it’s been pretty well confirmed that
(9/11 al-Qaeda hijacker Mohammed Atta) did go to Prague and he did meet with
a senior official of the Iraqi intelligence service in Czechoslovakia last April,
several months before the attack.”
– V.P. Cheney, “Meet
the Press,” 12.9.01

“But we know that Saddam has resumed his efforts
to acquire nuclear weapons… Many of us are convinced that Saddam will acquire
nuclear weapons fairly soon.”

Vice President Cheney, Speech to VWF’s 103rd National Convention, 8.26.2002

The Republicans are now using what they believe will be their
secret weapon, veterans, each of whom have earned the right to speak out as
they so choose. No doubt, they believe every word they are saying. I respect
each of them and their families for their service and sacrifice.

But Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with Iraq and I, personally,
will not allow the equation of 9/11 = Iraq to be used again. It also cannot
become the battle cry for 2006 without direct rebuttal, even though that is
the Republican Party's only hope right now.

Republicans are desperately worried of losing Congress, either
Senate or House, which would mean true investigations of the many misdeeds,
untruths and false policies put for by the Bush administration. Investigations would
be devestating to Republicans for many years to come, so with Bush's poll numbers
at around 39%, according to the latest CNN/USA
TODAY/GALLUP POLL
, they'll need all the help they can get. Operation 9/11
= Iraq has begun anew.

UPDATE: Democrats strong on national security.
