Bush Fantasies Come Back to Bite

Bush Fantasies Come Back to Bite

Red State Washington Post

Three years of upbeat White House assessments about
Iraq that turned out to be premature, incomplete or plain wrong are complicating
President Bush's efforts to restore public faith in the military operation
and his presidency, according to pollsters and Republican lawmakers and strategists.

Rep. Heather A. Wilson (R-N.M.) said in an interview
that Cheney was wrong about the insurgency being in its last throes and that
she sent word to the White House recently to level with the American people
about the challenges. “We need to assume that things are going to be
very hard because when you do, you plan accordingly,” said Wilson. “I
am always cautious about always seeing things in the best light because war
is not like that” and the public knows it.

Erosion in Confidence Will Be Hard To Reverse, Say Pollsters, Strategists

I'm telling you what's on my mind. … War creates trauma,
particularly when you're fighting an enemy that doesn't fight soldier to soldier.
… If I didn't believe we could succeed I wouldn't be there. … A democracy
in Iraq is going to affect the neighborhood.

Waking up to a press conference from Terror Guy is always startling.

Rumsfeld is staying, in case anyone was wondering, which I wasn't.
But when Bush talks about war plans being good until you meet the enemy in battle,
it makes me want to bounce a ball off his head. There were plans that could
have kept Iraq from devolving into a civil war. Instead, Bush's obstinate nature
and his weak leadership have led to us losing Iraq. Republicans sat there and
let it happen.

And speaking of red state pachyderms, via
Atrios
, the Washington Post just launched RED
America
, to do battle with their perception that Dan Froomkin
is on our side, something that only exists in Deb and Jim's mind. The first
line is hilarious, claiming that they are a majority. The fantasy brigade
continues, this time compliments of Deborah Howell and Jim Brady. It explains why there was no editorial on the 3rd anniversary of the Iraq war. They've abdicated their responsibilities to us.

Six in ten Americans want out of Iraq. So do we, which gives us the majority.
What part of over 60% doesn't the Red State Washington Post understand?
