Bush’s Election Year Bug Out

Bush's Election Year Bug Out

President Bush vowed for the first time yesterday to
turn over most of Iraq to newly trained Iraqi troops by the end of this year,
setting a specific benchmark as he kicked off a fresh drive to reassure Americans
alarmed by the recent burst of sectarian violence.

(snip)

"As more capable Iraqi police and soldiers come
on line, they will assume responsibility for more territory with the goal
of having the Iraqis control more territory than the coalition by the end
of 2006," he said in a speech to the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.

Bush
Sets Target for Transition In Iraq

So, now it's official?

Where did they get this headline?

For that matter, where has the Washington Post been all this time?

I know, too many questions, but seriously, I heard most of Bush's
latest speech. There was absolutely no news made that hasn't been said by the
likes of Barry McCaffrey, Jack Murtha and many others, including me, and I have
no access whatsoever to the weenies in the White House.

It's 2006 or bust. It's Bush's election year bug out. It's bye-bye
Baghdad, baby.

Contrast the above article with Dana
Milbank's piece
and the coverage of the Iraq war schizophrenia is complete,
with some Bush ad nauseam oldies to drive the point home.

"We have a comprehensive strategy
for victory in Iraq."

"We are making progress in the
march of freedom."

"As Iraqis stand up, America and our coalition
will stand down."

"We're on the hunt for the enemy."

Then there's his former allies…

Francis Fukuyama: Bush's foreign policy is "in shambles."

Buckley: "The kernel here is the acknowledgment
of defeat."
Oh, and he also said the Iraq mission has "failed."

Senator Lugar was present to hear the speech and he said it's time for "momentum"
in the next 4 months or we're basically screwed. Joe Biden said the same thing
on "Meet the Press" this weekend.

Milbank stated the most embarrassing part of yesterday: "Bush
couldn't seem to get 'detonated,' while 'perpetrators' became 'perpetuators'
and 'gathered' became 'garnered.'"

But let's get serious for one minute. Bush was always going to bug out this
year. He didn't announce diddly yesterday.

Murtha has been saying we're going to draw down for months and he was called a coward on the House
floor, even worse, depending to whom you were listening.

So what are we going to tag our president?

Bug out Bush works for me.
