House Full of Nuts

House Full of Nuts

GOP House bib not included

\”My fear is that if we continue down this path
that the Senate has established, that we will have created the biggest magnet
ever,\” said Representative Bob Beauprez, a Colorado Republican. \”It
would be like a dinner bell, 'Come one, come all.' \”

(snip)

\”Let the prisoners pick the fruits,\” Mr.
Rohrabacher said. \”We can do it without bringing in millions of foreigners.\”

With the Senate considering a worker and citizenship
plan starkly at odds with the House approach, Representative Tom Tancredo,
Republican of Colorado and a leading advocate of tough immigration laws, said
House conservatives wanted to make clear their resistance to any worker program.
\”Push is coming to shove,\” Mr. Tancredo said.

Conservatives
Stand Firm on Immigration

It's been book end bad moments on illegal immigration today for
Republicans.

A dinner bell? … … Let the prisoners pick the fruits?

Where do the Republicans get these people?

House Republicans seem to be determined to go the way of Europe
on immigration, which hasn't worked very well for them at all.

Then you had President Bush finishing up his tri-lateral photo op and talking
about \”smart borders.\” Smart borders?

I'm telling you, if this were a slogan run off we'd have it made.

But it was Lou Dobbs down in Cancun that was the best bang for
the buck, especially when he switched to the segment that included Ed Rollins
and other pundits in the studio. Rollins delivered his usual Friday slam
on Bush, but this week he was particularly disdainful, talking about how Bush
doesn't do policy and hasn't from the Iraq war to immigration, which will end
up having his Administration with nothing to show for their efforts when Bush is done.

But the illegal immigration issue isn't going away, because Mexico
needs the money and American corporations say they need the workers.

This all may be moot with the nuts in the House in the mix. I half imagine them
laying siege to the Capitol on the threat that we begin busing illegal aliens
out of this country or they'll burn the place down. They sound very likely to
tell the Senate to stuff it, no matter that it's the country that will suffer through their insufferably obtuse obstinance.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think the Senate, through Specter's bill, has the answer either.
Someone has to fine the corporations and businesses that keep hiring illegal
immigrants, on top of 10-12,000 border agents. And the more I hear about Kennedy-McCain, I've got to tell you, how is Immigration going to handle the implementation? I'm serious. They can't handle what they've got
now.

Look, I'm not trying to be negative, but if anything gets done on this it will
be close to a miracle of Guadeloupe.
