Warner Rescues Rubber Stamping Republicans
UPDATE on this post:
Senator John Warner just announced on the Senate floor that DP World
will give up stake “in some U.S. ports,” handing control over to
a “U.S. entity.” What U.S. entity? No one is saying yet, but could
it be? Nah, that “U.S. entity” wouldn't be Halliburton, would it?
Nah.
Senator Frist couldn't even get the Dubai port deal right. The
man is the very definition of feckless. Another Republican had to take the helm
because Billy bobbled the Dubai response too. Wow, what a crew.
Senator Warner came to the rescue of Bush and his rubber stamping
Republicans today, who were seen earlier running from Dubya's Dubai ship in
a suicide mission to save themselves, as Democrats took the helm.
The United Arab Emirates company that was attempting to take over
management operations at six U.S. ports announced today that it will divest
itself of all American interests. It's official.
The announcement appears to head off a major confrontation
that was brewing between Congress and the Bush administration over the controversial
deal.Sen. John Warner (R-Va.) announced on the Senate floor shortly before 2 p.m.
that Dubai Ports World would “transfer fully the operations of U.S. ports
to a U.S. entity.” Warner, who had been trying to broker a compromise
on the issue, said DP World would divest itself of U.S. interests “in
an orderly fashion” so as not to suffer “economic loss.”The rubber stamping Republicans have caved
to commerce even further, making some sort of secret, last minute, save my
congressional seat deal with Dubai. DP World will give up some control to
some yet unknown and unnamed “U.S. entity” control over managing
U.S. ports.

Port Company to Divest Itself of American Holdings
Again, who's the “U.S. entity”? Anyone want to take
a guess? Can't wait to find out the through line to this story. I wonder if
Frist will be found later today tied to an anchor?
