WSJ's James Taranto Turns to Race Baiting
He's at it again. Doing stupid things, then blasting them out to people. There
ought to be a support group for this type of behavior. We could name it after
Mr. Taranto. Of course, I could choose not to read this part of my subscription,
but then I wouldn't get treated to Taranto's Republican campaigns.

| James Taranto, of the Wall Street Journal, Worst Person in the World … and on the web. |
We've argued that such an attitude is likely to prevail
if there is another terrorist attack in America on the scale of 9/11. But
it's possible that wouldn't even be necessary. Already, as the Newark Star-Ledger
reports, one of the U.S. Senate's most liberal members is literally demonizing
Arabs:An Arab-American civil rights group [Wednesday] accused
Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) of making racist comments about Arabs during
a New Jersey rally this week when he condemned the takeover of U.S. port
operations by an United Arab Emirates-owned company. . . .“We wouldn't transfer the title to the devil;
we're not going to transfer it to Dubai,” Lautenberg said.We have long suspected that liberals are more prejudiced
than conservatives, as evidenced, for instance, by the glee with which they
attack black conservatives on racial grounds. This sort of thing certainly
bolsters our suspicion.
Senator Lautenberg went over the top, in my opinion, but he's
a man living in New Jersey, for goodness sake. Maybe his emotions got the better
of him, as 9/11 came back into view. But he definitely gave Taranto a good quote on which to
base his fallacious charge. However, I don't know of any other Democratic Party
leader anywhere who has used language like Lautenberg's, or for that matter,
any responsible progressive blogger that has used this type of language either.
If you have evidence, please send it my way.
The bottom line is that we don't feel that way, not to mention
that we don't have to defend the defenseless. After all, there is nothing wrong
with refusing to accept a government-owned company tied to 9/11 and Osama bin
Laden from taking over management of our ports, period. Point. Game. Match.
In fact, liberals and progressives have always been accused of
being too sensitive about minorities and ethnic groups, at the expense of everything
else. So, whatever Taranto is taking, he needs to up his dosage.
Bush has sold this country out on border security, homeland security
and national security. The American people agree, pick a poll, any poll. The president and the Republican Party are in free fall.
It's Democrats like Governor Janet Napolitano and Governor Bill
Richardson who are leading, with Napolitano asking Rummy for troops on her border.
In Arizona, the voters passed a bill demanding I.D.s for illegal aliens, which
passed, with 47% of the Hispanic vote in favor of prop 200, which was eventually
called unconstitutional. Even Hispanics get that border security isn't about
prejudice.
Meanwhile, Bush sits by and does nothing.
As for attacking black conservatives, we only do that when black
conservatives like Michael Steel equate stem
cell research with the Nazis, for which he had to apologize. We attacked
Armstrong Williams for being on the president's payroll, while parading around
as a “journalist.” We criticize, or at least I do, black conservatives
like Ron Christie who aren't critical thinkers and won't admit mistakes when
they are made by Republicans, refusing to hold the president accountable for
anything. Oh, and I've criticized Colin Powell for not standing up to Bush and
pushing back, when everyone knew he didn't want the war in Iraq. Powell's speech
at the U.N. was a humiliation to which he's even admitted sorrow. Oh, and then
there's Condi the Incompetent, but come on, she was shoe shopping when Katrina
was about to hit, but got it all started off by missing the meaning of a PDB
that screamed BIN LADEN DETERMINED TO ATTACK INSIDE U.S. Doesn't she deserve
a little critique for that boneheaded blindness that missed every signal being set off?
But seriously, after looking at the carnage of Katrina, we hardly
have any argument on the attack black conservatives front, because only 2% of
blacks consider themselves conservatives! There's actually no one to attack
with “glee.”
As for the Dubai port deal, Taranto offers something I also saw
this morning.
… … … Welcome to Post-Tipping
Point politics. There is no upside to doing the right thing – which
is to emphasize, as one blogger put it, that there is a difference between
Dubai and Damascus. There is tremendous political upside to doing the wrong
thing, boldly declaring, “I don’t care what the Muslim world thinks,
I’m not allowing any Arab country running ports here in America! I don’t
care how much President Bush claims these guys are our allies, I don’t
trust them, and I’m not going to hand them the keys to the vital entries
to our country!”… … AFTER
THE PORT DEAL
All of a sudden, not wanting a country with ties to terrorism,
that has been “infiltrated” by al Qaeda, not to mention ties to two
of the 9/11 hijackers, while money laundering some of Osama's money, is being
racist.
Steve Emerson, a counterterrorism expert, no Democrat he, said
it best. When it comes to the Dubai port deal, he said, “Why take the chance?” Seems simple enough to me.
