Yes. … The penality is the censure itself.
Is the reprimand by the United States Congress for action that is inappropriate.
… He violated the law. … Now censure for inappropriate behavior is appropriate.
– Senator John Kerry
In case you haven't seen John Kerry's recent
charge on Iraq, his amendment
is online.
On “Meet the Press,”
Kerry showed why I went to the wall for him from the beginning. He's clearer
now, straight and unflinching.
Kerry's plan for today: Tell the truth. Fire the incompetence. Get out of Iraq.
Health care for all Americans.
Senator Kerry went a long way today, leading, speaking clearly for once, for
which he should be praised. He's turned the page on his mistakes of the 2004
election, but I don't know if anyone else in the Democratic Party has done the
same. As for me, I'm grateful he came out for censure.
The more you read, the more censure seems not only necessary, but critically
important. Important because it once again defines the branches of government
and let's the president know he's not a king. It could be the one thing that
stops the Bush administration's aggression and bluster, not to mention the nonsense about using nukes in the Middle East.
UPDATE: Kerry also said, in his interview with Wolf Blitzer, that he's prepared to vote for censure, then elaborated. He also said it needed to go through the committee first, but that it needed to go further, but not to impeachment, which is totally political and totally Washington. It's about accountability for Bush, as far as Kerry is concerned, on a variety of issues, first being the Iraq war. Kerry made the important point that the Iraqis have only responded to deadlines. It's obvious that Kerry is remembering how many lives were lost in Vietnam, after politicians knew the war was a loser.
