Rove's 5th Time at Trying to Tell the Truth
![]() |
If at first you don't succeed, which Karl has not, try, try, try, try, try
again. 1-2-3-4-5 tries to tell the truth. My mom never gave me two. But seriously,
have you ever “tried” to do anything? You either get it done or you
don't. Trying has nothing to do with it. The first problem for Karl is recognizing
the truth in the first place, which has never been his strong suit. Bush's Brain
laid that out in black and white. The Swiftboat Vet campaign against John Kerry
brought it home. However, it's gotten serious now. When you're the “subject”
of a probe that has Patrick Fitzgerald at the helm, you'd better understand
that slighting the truth isn't likely to keep you out of the slammer.
Christy
has the rundown, with Crooks
and Liars providing the video. The AP
has more, including this teaser: “Fitzgerald has told Rove's legal
team recently that he has not made any decision on whether to charge the presidential
aide and Rove hasn't received a target notification that would indicate he is
likely to be indicted, the people said.”
Byron
York believes Rove's testimony today has something to do with Viveka Novak's
revelation that she talked to Rove's attorney. We shall see. However, we know for sure that Karl is not in the clear, not by a long shot. So expect some fancy lawyering after Karl, ahem, comes clean today. I can't wait to hear the latest from Mr. Luskin.
Top White House aide Karl Rove arrived at the federal courthouse
Wednesday for his fifth grand jury appearance in the Valerie Plame affair.Escorted by his lawyer Robert Luskin, Rove went into the building for a closed-door
session with the panel and Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald, who is heading
up the inquiry into who leaked Plame’s status as a CIA officer to the
news media in 2003.Among other things the prosecutor is investigating why Rove originally failed
to disclose to prosecutors that he had talked to Time magazine reporter Matt
Cooper about the CIA status of Plame.Rove testifying before CIA
leak grand jury
White House aide is expected to address new evidence since last fall
What this illustrates is the penchant for the president and his
people to shade the truth. Karl knows that the presidency of George W. Bush can't handle the truth. It would be too damaging. Besides his boss has his own problems with getting the truth out. George W. Bush still hasn't told the American people
the truth about Iraq, his vice president's energy task force meetings, how the
Dubai port deal went down, the NSA illegal spying debacle, the black site secret
prisons, and a whole host of other topics. It's taken Karl Rove 5 times, count them, five, to get
the truth straight and he's still not done and this is only one issue. It will
take the rest of our lives to finally get the fifth and sixth versions of
the truth from George W. Bush on all the issues he's fibbed. As for Deadeye Dick, we'll never get the truth out of him.
