Two in a CBS news crew killed, with one person seriously wounded.
Afghanistan is in flames.
Iraq needs more troops!
In the latest installment of the Adventures
of Terror Guy, things have gotten very grim for our anti-hero.
The “war on terror” isn't going so well. In fact, it's failing. It's
destiny. After all, it's hard to wage war against a feeling, especially when
you're busy trying to instill that very feeling in the people you're supposed
to be saving.
But never fear, Terror Guy will continue his crusade. It's the “war on
terror” or bust. But it looks like it's all bust, baby.
There's a reason the “war on terror” usually appears in quotes around here, ever since Terror Guy coined it. I mean really, “war on terror”?
What does it actually mean, anyway?
Terror Guy is too busy waging a war with terror, to wage a war against
any real enemy, like ignorance, fundamentalist Islam, poverty, Middle East government
corruption. Be very afraid is The Man's motto. It allows Terror Guy to swoop
in and pretend like he's protecting us from the enemy.
But who's protecting us from Terror Guy?
After all these years, the “war
on terror” has morphed into a maniacal mechanism that's turned on its
master. Terror Guy is caught in his own trap.
Iran has the upper hand.
Afghanistan is yelling “death to America,” long after our once won
righteous war.
And fighting them “over there” in Iraq isn't working out so well.
Terror Guy's got real trouble now, which can't even be solved with more troops
anymore. But he's sending them in anyway. Because while he was putting wreathes
on graves things turned truly terrifying.
The Afghan capital erupted Monday in the worst street violence since the
fall of the Taliban in 2001, following a fatal traffic accident involving
a U.S. military truck. Mobs of men and boys, many of them shouting slogans
against the government and United States, set fires, attacked buildings and
clashed with police for about seven hours.Hotel windows were raked with gunfire, a foreign aid agency was torched and
looted, and numerous police posts were destroyed. Some rioters brandished
AK-47 assault rifles; gunfire sounded throughout the city and clouds of black
smoke wafted in the air. Dozens of vehicles were smashed and burned.Accident

In Iraq, we need more troops, but this time, it's to protect our soldiers from
the insurgency. The “war on terror” bites back.
Although some soldiers from the 3,500-member brigade in Kuwait have moved
into Iraq in recent months, Gen. George W. Casey Jr. has decided to send in
the remainder of the unit after consultations with Iraqi officials in recent
days, the officials said. The confirmation that the number of American forces in Iraq would grow came
on a day of soaring violence in Baghdad. Two Britons working as members of
a CBS News television crew were killed on Monday and an American correspondent
for the network was critically wounded when a military patrol they were accompanying
was hit by a roadside bomb. [Page A10.]The movement of the brigade comes as several senior American officials in
Iraq have begun to raise doubts about whether security conditions there will
permit significant troop reductions in coming months.“General Casey has been working with the government of Iraq, and he
has asked permission to draw forward more forces that will be operating in
Anbar,” a senior military official said. The officials were granted anonymity
because they were not authorized to talk officially about continuing troop
movements.
But never fear. Terror Guy is here.
He'll combat the terror. But how will he stop the bloodshed, the carnage, the killing?
Not to worry, the “war on terror” will win. You'll feel it soon. Just ask the Iraqis.
We don't call him Terror Guy for nothing.
