Zacarias Moussaoui, Iraq and Other Incompetence

Moussaoui didn't know Mahammed Atta. We know he wasn't the 20th hijacker.
His greatest dream was to die a martyr, so he just made up stuff on the stand.
The jury robbed him of his wish, even though they claimed they couldn't
have cared less about denying him death and 20 virgins. It wasn't part of their
deliberations, which fell short of a unanimous verdict on the death penalty.
In fact, Moussaoui was a bit whacked. The jury decided that his childhood made
him that way, so he got life. Our Oprah society wouldn't allow anything more.
Too bad, but he'll live a life like death in prison. It's just that he'll be
fully present to feel it. Good riddance to this al Qaeda madman. As an aside,
I'm completely inconsistent when it comes to the death penalty and al Qaeda.
I'm against it for everyone else, but for it for people who want to rip our
lives from us. When it comes to terrorists, it's just too much to ask that I
be rational. Take a visit to Talk
Left if you're looking for rational on this one. But that's not the
issue for me, so let's get down to business.
Ramzi Binalshibh admitted that he participated in the 9/11 attacks
on Al-Jazeera, which I'd heard before, but Kristin Breitweiser, a widow made
from 9/11, repeated the fact today on \”Hardball.\” Did you read what
she had to say about Rudy's
testimony at Moussaoui's trial?
And where is Khalid
Shaikh Mohammed, the mastermind of 9/11, today? We know he's been tortured.
So does that mean we'll never get justice? That Bush's torture policies will keep the 9/11 families from getting justice? Where are we keeping him? I want
him brought forth, tried and punished. Someone needs to ask Tony Snowjob when
that's going to happen. His eyes will glaze over and he'll drop dead in a faint.
This is how George W. Bush fights the global war on terror. He
lets bin Laden escape and roam the world free. While the Republican controlled
Congress, evidently, could care less. Bush issues signing statements that allow
torture to continue right underneath John McCain's agreement and nose — which
is too far up Bush's butt to smell the truth — and even though one of the people
we're torturing was directly responsible for 9/11. A person who could be tried and punished for his role in 9/11. His whereabouts the biggest secret in U.S. government history.
Fighting the global war on terror takes more than talk, show trials
and preemptive war. Is this the best Bush can do? Bin Laden vamoose, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed disappeared, with Ramzi Binalshibh… This is the best we can get from the
Republican Congress?
Terrorism and national security are supposed to be Republican
strong suits. As for terrorism, attacks are up and we haven't caught bin Laden,
with only Moussaoui to show for the carnage of 9/11, and he didn't even know
anything about it, except what he could conjure up in his mind. When you turn to Iraq, the incompetence is magnified.
A suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt blew himself up among
a crowd of Iraqi police recruits Wednesday in the city of Fallujah, killing
at least 17 people, a hospital official there said. In Baghdad, meanwhile,
authorities found the bodies of 37 people shot to death in six different locations.Details of the bombing were sketchy Wednesday. U.S. and Iraqi troops cleared
the streets and cordoned off the area around the police station, where most
of the city government's offices are located. U.S. military authorities have
not yet released any information about the attack.Insurgents have repeatedly targeted crowds of police recruits, particularly
in Fallujah and other parts of Anbar province, a desert area west of Baghdad
that is considered the heartland of the Sunni Arab insurgent movement. An attack on a larger crowd of police recruits in January in Ramadi, the
capital of Anbar, killed about 50 people. The 37 bodies found in Baghdad were all handcuffed and shot to death, Maj.
Gen. Mahmoud al-Waeli, an Interior Ministry official, said. A video clip that
aired on the al-Arabiya television station showed the bodies wrapped in blankets
in the city morgue. The station said 48 people had been killed, but this has
not been confirmed.
Are the Republicans capable of keeping us safe anymore? The myth that they
ever were has been dashed. When I look at the Dubai port deal, immigration,
our chemical and nuclear facilities that remain an easy target, Iraq and Iran,
it's obvious they're only making matters worse. Kristen Breitweiser is scared,
because she doesn't feel anything has really been done to protect us since 9/11.
Iraq certainly hasn't made us safer. Congress is just now getting around to
insisting that 100% of our containers be checked. It's 2006. It took them long
enough. As for Bush, he is just waking up that gas prices matter to the American
people. Republicans wanted to buy us off with $100. Meanwhile, their policies are making the world less safe, which won't do anything for us at the pump.
I ask again, where is Khalid
Shaikh Mohammed? I want him held accountable in a U.S. court, not tortured
and never seen again. Someone needs to ask President Bush if that's ever going
to happen and if not, why not?
UPDATE (5.4.06): Must read article in the L.A. Times today… No Trials for Key Players. Peggy Noonan weighs in with They Should have Killed Him.
