Amnesty for Terrorists – Picnic for Republicans

Amnesty for Terrorists – Picnic for Republicans –updated–

6:30 pm: EDT THE PRESIDENT and Mrs. Bush attend Congressional Picnic

George W. Bush and the Republicans are so desperate to get security in Iraq
they've decided that giving amnesty to insurgents who attacked and killed
our troops is the way to go.

Sherrod Brown - you remember him; the guy Rush thinks is black, evidently because of his name - has a question for Mike DeWine on the subject: “The president returned
from Iraq with a proposal that would allow those who have killed American men
and women in uniform a get out of jail free card,” Brown said. “While
the president may describe his visit as a success, Ohio families beg to differ.
The real question is, on whose side does Mike DeWine stand?'

It's a fair question, wouldn't you say?

The Iraqis are trying to walk it back, but you've got to wonder if it will
work.

Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Wednesday proposed a limited amnesty to
help end the Sunni Arab insurgency as part of a national reconciliation plan
that Maliki said would be released within days. The plan is likely to include
pardons for those who had attacked only U.S. troops, a top adviser said.

Maliki's declaration of openness to talks with some members of Sunni armed
factions, and the prospect of pardons, are concessions that previous, interim
governments had avoided. The statements marked the first time a leader from
Iraq's governing Shiite religious parties has publicly embraced national reconciliation,
welcomed dialogue with armed groups and proposed a limited amnesty.

Leader Also Backs Talks With Resistance

Meanwhile, the debate on Iraq goes on. Yes, Kerry's attempt to get a time table
on withdrawal failed, but at least he waged the fight.

As for me, I heard earlier today that there is to be a picnic for Congressional Republicans
today, right about now. I'm hoping someone can get art. Because nothing says
I care about the Iraq war more than a bunch of pinheaded presidential
rubber stampers eating weenies on the White House lawn.

Nice art on the invitation from George & Laura, don't you think? Frame it with the caption…
Picnic planned on the day U.S. troop deaths hit 2,500.
