Harry Reid Speaks Out On Iraq –updated–
(posted from Washington, D.C., 3:53 a.m. eastern time)
After hearing his new grand child was named in his honor, Harry Reid called
his other children and disowned them. That was his lead off joke at the luncheon
this afternoon. I'm sure he's used it many times before, because it's a perfect quip for Give 'em Hell, Harry. However, he quickly segued to the issues, where he is much more comfortable.
Today, Reid talked aggressively against still being in Iraq; making a point to say that Bush
needs to come out after his war council and do something. Standing up Iraqi
troops, so we can stand down, is no longer enough in Reid's eyes.
Today, according
to Reid, over 300,000 Iraqis are trained. After Bush's war council, Reid also
said it's time for Bush to address troop levels. Harry's going to be listening
and watching, because he wants to bring the troops home. After all, the Senate
voted that 2006 will be a major transition year for America in Iraq.
The world isn't getting any safer.
“Iraq is not the only issue threatening America today.”
– Senator Harry Reid, TBA
Senator Reid's
speech is worth the effort if you've got good audio. My microphone picked
it up, but it does take some effort, as I couldn't get any closer than the first
row, which still provided some distance in the large room where lunch was served and Reid spoke. (UPDATE: PoliticsTV just sent me the video of Reid's speech. WATCH IT.)
Kerry's referendum on troop levels, which I've been writing about, will be voted
on very soon, perhaps in the next 24 hours. If you haven't reached out to
your senator now
is the time to do so.
There will be more from the Take Back America conference (schedule
here). Including a march to the White House on Wednesday,
called a Flag Day Procession, which is getting the action started. It's a “silent
march” from the Washington Hilton Hotel to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. I
don't know much more than that, but thought I'd pass that along.
Wonder if George will be home by then?
