The Cannibal Conservatives

They're certainly not interested in thinking about Iraq.
So they're eating
each other alive
, and nothing has ever been more delicious to watch. The
“pre-mortem” beats facing reality over there.

“Jim’s problem is that he wants a way to make clear to Maliki
that we’re leaving, but without signaling to the Shia and the Sunni
that if they bide their time, they can battle it out for Iraq,” said
one longtime national security expert who recently testified in front of the
study group. “How do you do that? Got me.”

Bush
Faces a Battery of Ugly Choices on War

No wonder it's making Rush so cranky, as he gives a new name to the disgusted: “cut
and run conservatives.”
But he's talking about voting in November,
and not Iraq. Wait 'til he gets a dose of what's coming. He'll swallow his cigar.

But the naval gazing has already started. You'd think these guys would have
done something about this long before now. It's not like there hasn't been fair
warning.

“The Foley scandal has taken the air out of the tires.” – Tony
Perkins

“If this election features a depression in the Republican vote, one
of the major reasons will be the president's immigration proposals… It raises
the question, Who are these folks if they are so unresponsive to us on something
we care so much about.” – David Frum

“With the exception of Bush's commendable steadfastness in Iraq — combined,
however, with debilitating stubbornness on troop levels and strategy — and
his support for Israel, Bush's foreign policy is now Clintonian in its combination
of weadness and wishful thinking.” William Kristol

“It will make you feel better to say, 'I didn't lose the election. Foley
lost it for me,' and your wife and kids will believe it.” – Grover Norquist

“In 2004 we really did break our necks to turn out the vote. For the
two years since then, I have been extremely disappointed with what the Republicans
have done with the power they were given.” – Dr. James Dobson
