Let Democratic Populism Reign

Let Democratic Populism Reign

The Democratic candidates that won were progressive liberals campaigning against
the Iraq war and for Democratic causes that represent the heart and soul of
everything we believe.

Jim Webb, who defeated Senator George Allen of Virginia, campaigned heavily
on the idea that the middle class was increasingly at risk in an age of growing
inequality. Bob Casey, who overwhelmingly defeated Senator Rick Santorum of
Pennsylvania, said he looked forward to “a really intensive focus on
health care that I hope to be a part of.”

That economic populism extends, for many candidates, to a new emphasis on
expanding health coverage. Congressional Democrats who lived through the Clinton
administration’s failed effort to create a national health insurance
plan, which many believe was a crucial factor in the Democrats’ losses
in 1994, have been wary of broad health legislation for years. (And being
in the minority, they were unable to do much about it, regardless.) But the
class of ’06 is adamant that something major can, and will, be done.

Incoming
Democrats Put Populism Before Ideology

We aren't in power by default.

People felt something coming through our candidates.
People like James Webb, Jon Tester and Claire McCaskill were talking about
something that reached the people. It's a beginning of something new and big. Joe Sestak won in a Republican district against a man that would do anything to win. Democratic candidates blasted Bush and the Republicans hard on the war, then pivoted to issues of common ground like embryonic stem cell research, raising the minimum wage, health care and alternative fuels.

People came out to vote because our candidates campaigned for change in Iraq, but took it one more step to represent a large section of the electorate who don't happen to be rich.

Equity in America is back and the Democrats are serving it up.

Meanwhile, the wingnuts
are choking on it
, while remaining clueless as to what really happened. Simultaneously, they are also continuing the heinous
line that, well, read
it for yourself.

Last night I posted al Qaeda: \”Democrats
Are Reasonable\”!
. That post discussed the support for the Democrats
in the midterm elections that has been voiced by terrorists around the world.
A lively and diverse debate on this subject is now being carried out on the
Power Line Forum; if you haven't already done so, this would be a great time
to register, which takes only seconds, and participate in the conversation.
(The Forum, if you haven't heard, is part of our completely revamped and re-launched
Power Line News site.)

This morning there is much more to be said on this explosive topic. The Washington
Times headlines: al
Qaeda Gloats Over U.S. Election.
I haven't yet seen a complete translation
of the audio tape by the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Hamza al-Muhajir,
that surfaced yesterday. But this commentary by Walid Phares, a Senior Fellow
with the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, is illuminating … …

John @ Powerline

Whew, this has got to be more exhausting than a gay Republican watching the
news these days. Talk about dense or is it denial?

The wingnuts are calling the American people out; saying that all those millions
of people who voted actually are in favor of aiding and abetting al Qaeda. They
have obviously imploded into sheer and utter panic, which is why Captain's
Quarters
is taking issue with Powerline.

It's the kind of rhetoric from Powerline that Americans walked away from last
week. But if beating a dead elephant floats your boat, the wingnuts have one dead
carcass for you to flog to your heart's content.

Got crow?
