His Name is BOND, JAMES BOND
\”Casino Royale\” is a triumph. It is not a throwback, but a serious
catapult into what could be an era of Bond film making that foreshadows the
best James Bond ever seen on film. This includes the man who plays James Bond
himself, Daniel Craig. This man now owns James Bond.
Oh, and thankfully and at long last, the clichés and quips are history. But praise to the road gods that the remarkably fine autos remain.
It's also only fitting that the new James Bond reveals himself as a serious man,
with the full range of emotions, including the one most likely to make any human
being vulnerable. It's the stuff that makes a real man who he is, despite his
talents for black ops, spying, military bravura and everything in between.
Bravery does not come from shallow men (or women, for that matter). Real courage
comes from the source of undaunted fearlessness. But not just in work, but in
life. Yes, even James Bond can be touhed by, dare we say it, love.
It also makes so much sense that in the real age of terrorism and fundamentalist
wackos, James Bond finally walks away from all the cheeky, embarrassing side
winks to the audience to confront the dangerous world in which we live.
We are again reminded that the threat can come in all forms and betrayals, as the recent and most bizarre Russian radiation poinsonings drive home.
This is also one of those movies that you simply must see from the start. The
opening sequence of stunts will blow your mind. To say Craig's physical prowess is impressive is an understatement.

There has also been much talk about the new Bond girl, Eva Green. She is not the usual
fare for Mr. Bond, that's for sure. \”Vesper\” is a financial figure
with a body, face and brains of a professional woman, without the overblown
sexpot, look at me, could be in Playboy persona. Not that she couldn't be in
Playboy or a Victoria's Secret catalogue, but what she represents is the serious
woman, with real prowess and a complicated life to match. She's also in control
and I'm not talking the token type. Interestingly, \”Vesper\” is joined
by two other former Bond girls
in \”Casino Royale.\”
The music, with the theme song co-authored by Chris
Cornell and David Arnold is nothing short of thrilling. \”You Know My
Name\” couples magnificently with Craig.
It's good to remember that even though no one knew Daniel Craig, everyone
had already announced that he could never fill the shoes of James Bond, let
alone his tuxedo. When they did the first pr, remember this photo? It caused
a collective collapse of faith in all us movie goers who live on our espionage
and covert thrillers. Those images have been obliterated for all time.
If you ask me, when creating the character of James Bond, Ian Fleming had Daniel
Craig in mind.
James Bond will be back and it is so obvious. The only person to inhabit his deliciously lean, buff,
focused, roughly handsome, completely human, deeply male soul is Daniel Craig.
He now quite simply is Bond. James Bond.
