Scarborough and Buchanan Still Don’t Get It

Scarborough and Buchanan Still Don't Get It
cross-posted on Huffington Post

The boys of the corporate hack pack attack!
…and ready for more.

When the boys of the corporate hack pack attack!

Here we
go again.

Today on MSNBC, Joe Scarborough and Pat Buchanan illustrated once again that
they just don't understand the election message sent this past November. What
they want to talk about again is the fantasy catfight between Speaker-elect
Pelosi and Rep. Jane Harman. How do Pelosi and Harman fell about each other?
There may or may not be any love loss between them. I could care less, frankly.
Because it's about the Iraq war, boys. You'd have thought the Murtha
fight would have sent that message loud and clear.

Purple Heart recipient.

Decorated Vietnam veteran.

Former Border Patrol agent, with 26 years watching the U.S. border, finally
turned congressman.

Today, Pelosi chose Rep. Silvestre Reyes to head the House Intelligence Committee.
“Silver,” as he is known among friends, will now take control of overseeing
our intelligence communities.

Oh, and did I mention that Reyes voted
against the Iraq war
?

That seems to have escaped Messrs. Scarborough and Buchanan. They, instead,
want to talk about Harman's legendary “respect” among the intelligence
community. Mind you, they're talking about a community that got the Iraq war
call wholly and completely wrong OR, at the very least, caved in to the Bush
administration's preemptive push. Harman is no doubt a bright woman, but she's
been wrong at every turn. That is, unless you think backing Mr. Bush's policies
was the job of the opposition party. She also would be an all together different
leader on the Houe Intelligence Committee, someone who didn't get anything right
on the run up to the war.

Via TPM Muckraker,
we get Harman in her own words. Snippets are below, but check out the link yourself,
because her backing
of Mr. Bush's illegal domestic spying
is enough to make your hair stand
straight up on end.

On Saddam Hussein's WMDs: “There's a strong intelligence case that Iraq
has not destroyed its weapons of mass destruction and is building the capability
to use them.” (Washington Post, 1/30/03)

On the Iraq-al Qaeda connection: “There's a growing al Qaeda presence
in Iraq, and I think the case can be made that there is a growing affiliation
[between the two.]” (Washington Post, 1/30/03)

On victory in Iraq: “[V]ictory will mean displaying for the world the
evidence of weapons of mass destruction, and the horrors and torture of a
generation of abuse by this dictator and then rebuilding the country with
a multi-national coalition, and the emergence of an indigenous, transparent,
moderate, democratic regime in Iraq run by the people of Iraq for them. I
think that that will be a marvelous victory.” (CNN, Larry King Live,
3/19/03)

Pelosi braved a lot by backing Murtha. She again stood up to face outrage for
the unfounded allegation she would be tapping Rep. Hastings. The contagion of criticism
continued when the boys of the corporate hack pack launched yet another volley
at Speaker-elect Pelosi for not choosing the conservative and, ultimately, wrong
at every turn, Rep. Jane Harman.

Harman is respected, cried Scarborough! No one comes close to Harman's experience, Scarborough cried.

Pelosi is getting personal, letting her emotions rule intelligence, sniped
Buchanan!

Boys, boys, boys.

Speaker-elect Pelosi has made it clear that Iraq is job one. Silly, isn't it?

People are dying. America's image is in the crapper, with Mr. Bush hoping
to wiggle his way out of Iraq by backing into the '08 elections. We're leaving,
but there's no timetable. Cue John McCain, escalation and a wider regional war, which may happen no matter what we do. Not to mention the reality that if Democrats don't act on Iraq '08 will end our majority.

Oh, and then there are our borders, one of the most dangerous points of Bush
malfeasance that the Republicans ignored from day one. How silly of Speaker-elect
Pelosi to appoint someone to head the House Intelligence Committee who actually
knows something about our borders. I guess Buchanan would rather leave than
job to Tancredo. Not on Pelosi's watch.

Purple Heart recipient. Decorated Vietnam veteran. Voted against the Iraq war.
Border patrol agent with 26 years experience.

Only corporate hacks would ignore the experience Rep. Reyes brings to the House
Intelligence Committee in favor of some fantasy chick catfight. Grow up, boys.
Your political petulance is showing.
