Malkin in a burka?

Speaker-elect Pelosi is going to tighten oversight on intelligence to make sure Mr. Bush and his bunch are spending the money properly. Go get \’em, Madame Speaker.

Wait for it… Eason Jordan invites Malkin
to Iraq. Will
she go
? Gilliard
responds
.

Today\’s radio show available through podcasts, including the conference call where Johnson fell ill, though now there is great hope for a full recovery. Also, I\’ll be be trying out a new radio venue for me over the holidays, which should be a lot of fun. They have an email feature to alert you right before my show will air. Hope you can tune in.

Scott Lemieux
comments on Jonah Goldberg\’s disastrous idea that \”Iraq
Needs a Pinochet.\”
Like Scott submits, any state
is better than a failed state, but that\’s hardly the point, I agree, given the lives lost
and the whopper of lies loaded up and dumped on the American people, not to mention the mess left behind.

On the same subject, Kevin Drum offers NEXT
UP: LEX LUTHOR vs. THE JOKER
. Indeed.

Stoller\’s got an excellent post about the
Goodyear union strikers
. He goes after CEO Robert Keegan.

\’Tis the season to make nice. Tony Snow apologized to David Gregory.

TONY SNOW: OK, before I get to that, I want to address something else. Because
you and I had a conversation last week that got a whole lot of play in a lot
of places, where I used the term \”partisan\” in describing one of
your questions.

And I\’ve thought a lot about that, and that I was wrong. So I want to apologize
and tell you I\’m sorry for it.

DAVID GREGORY: Thank you.

Tony
Snow Apologizes To David Gregory

Aaaawww. Isn\’t that sweet? Snowjob apologized to David Gregory after
acting like an ass because Gregory was doing his job. Wow.

Warren Jeffs has to stand
trial. This is so important, though it\’s likely Romney will continue
to ignore the situation
. Or maybe we\’ll get another bad joke from him,
who knows. I covered this on my show here,
here,
here,
here,
offering the girl\’s testimony at the first hearing. It\’s a tough subject, but
forced child brides and the abject subservience of women in FLDS must be highlighted.
CNN reported today that when Jeffs walked into the hearing room the FLDS women
all stood and looked at him as if he were a holy man, which is how they regard
Jeffs, believing he speaks to God, calling him The Prophet. Fundamentalism is
dangerous, no matter the religion.

But speaking of Romney, Andrew Sullivan blasts him today in a post that is
positively delicious called \”Romney
Recants.\”
Think snake oil salesman, good looks (according to some)
and all.

Pachacutec
talks about the immigration raids, as does Jeralyn
Merrit
.

Oh, and the wingnuts are worried that Rush may be playing up the fact that
Obama
supposedly doesn\’t like Modo
: Note to Rush: do we really want to play
up the fact that Obama doesn’t like Maureen Dowd? He could win a few red
states running on that platform.
They don\’t call it \”Hot Air\”
for nothin. It illustrates why Dick Morris is nuts, which I covered today on
my show (podcast).

Best headline of the day comes from my friends at Huffington
Post
: MCCAIN PLAYS PRESIDENT IN IRAQ.

The most alarming story of the day comes from Steve Clemons: Prince
Bandar Allegedly Advocating Military Response Against Iran
. Not good, people.
We knew something was up with the recent resignation of Prince Turki al-Faisal,
but, well, here\’s a teaser. Read the whole post.

Sources also confirm that Ambassador Turki\’s decision to resign not only
had to do with his refusal to tolerate the unprofessionalism of Bandar and
Massoud — but with the signals that Bandar and Massoud have sent to Cheney,
David Addington and others on Cheney\’s national security staff that Saudi
Arabia would \”acquiesce to, accept, and not interfere with\” American
military action against Iran.

This is the core of the deep divide between Prince Turki and Bandar — which
is also a divide between Foreign Minister Saud and Bandar as well.

The tension is about Iran and how to contain Iran. While Bandar and Rihab
Massoud allegedly have affirmed Cheney\’s views and are perceived to be Bush
administration sycophants, Turki was charting a more realist course for Saudi
interests and advising the White House to develop more serious, constructive
strategies toward the region that would produce stability and not lead to
\”a terrorist super-highway stretching from Iran through Iraq and rushing
through Syria and Jordan to the edge of Israel.\”

Good grief.

Marsh LIVE!

6-7 p.m. eastern – 3-4 p.m. pacific

We\’re going to start talking about John Edwards.
PODCASTS available.

OBAMA WATCH… A GQ review it was not. The other day, Jeff Greenfield put a
picture of Senator Barack Obama up alongside President Ahmadinejad of Iran.
What was the supposed significant comparison? They both wear open color shirts
with jackets, instead of a suit and tie. Greenfield then suggested that this
wasn't going to be a good comparison for Obama. Kevin Drum talks about this
very incident today.

Obama is on the grittle. First we had Republican strategist Ed Rogers sliming Obama through his middle name, which is Hussein.
Now we get Greenfield comparing the senator to Ahmadinejad.

Even though I have no dog in the '08 fight yet, it's good to see Salon writing
about \”Obama's
Magic.\”
There's heat, then there's a blast furnace. The New York Post takes another swipe, using his middle name for added emphasis.

E.J. Dionne says Obama is good for Senator Clinton.

Prince Turki al-Faisal, Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States, is
gone.
He flew the coup yesterday. Steve
Clemons
has more. Very interesting development, which could have serious
ramifications.

A new low, even for the murdering sadists roaming Iraq.

A suicide bomber targeting laborers killed 60 people Tuesday in Baghdad and
wounded 220 others, Iraqi officials said.

A pickup truck, loaded with about 440 pounds (200 kilograms) of explosives,
pulled into central Baghdad's Tayaran Square as hundreds of unemployed Iraqis
holding picks and shovels gathered seeking a day's work.

Pinochet gets a pass?

Fed holds rates at 5.25%, which is a perfect segue to BONDDAD, a brand new
economic blog. I will contribute to the blog when I cover union stories. Check it out.

An American whackjob
slithers out from under his rock and heads to Iran in order to denounce deny the
Holocaust, yet again. Don't miss the news clip interview today on my radio show.
It makes my weirder than fiction segment.

Speaking of whackjobs, Ken
doll Sean Hannity got a freebie trip to Iraq
, compliments of the American
taxpayer. He slummed along with Rummy, then offered up a \">nauseating interview with him on Fox.
Now if we could only get Sean to resign because of all his wingnut lies we'd
really be on a roll.

Then there's the really important news.

Soy
makes you gay!

Yikes. I better inform my husband.

This is hilarious. Radio Equalizer is coming to
Rush\’s rescue
. Evidently, mean Media Matters is going after Rush for no
apparent reason. It\’s character assassination! Poor Rush.

But that\’s nothing compared to this one. Tom Delay is now a (*cough*) blogger.
You got it. Read it and chuckle.

This one is not funny in the least.
Joe Gandelman\’s Moderate Voice
is getting targeted by Ann Althouse. There\’s
quite a feud going on swirling around the latest blog contest. I\’m not a fan
of these blog awards. The Weblog Awards seem now to be stuffed to the hilt.
You certainly don\’t get any sense that there is actually anything fair and real
about any of them. Glenn
Greenwald
has slapped Ms. Althouse around on many an occasion, including
this
post
that\’s a beauty. Read MV\’s column on the Althouse brouhaha. It\’s unbelievable
that anyone takes her seriously.

Yet another reason I think blog awards are counterproductive. Right Wing News
\”Fifth
Annual Warblogger Awards.\”

This is the biggest, least surprising news this morning.

Major partners in Iraq\’s governing coalition are in behind-the-scenes talks
to oust Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki amid discontent over his failure to
quell raging violence, according to lawmakers involved.

The talks are aimed at forming a new parliamentary bloc that would seek
to replace the current government and that would likely exclude supporters
of the radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, who is a vehement opponent of
the U.S. military presence.

The new alliance would be led by senior Shiite politician Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim,
who met with President Bush last week. Al-Hakim, however, was not expected
to be the next prime minister because he prefers the role of powerbroker,
staying above the grinding day-to-day running of the country.

Talks
under way to replace Iraq PM

Oh, and did you hear? Gen. Tommy Franks is raising
funds for an institute
in his honor. Considering how badly he botched Iraq,
all I can say is Texas hubris knows no bounds.

But this bit of dirt is an abject waste of resources and rather obscene in
its abuse of intelligence energy. We were snooping
on Princess Diane
the night she died. I mean, really, didn\’t we have anyone more dangerous to bug?

And the Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko plot thickens. Four others have been poisoned, so this isn\’t over by a long shot.

I\’ll write more about this one a bit later on, but Senator Barack Obama took New Hampshire by storm. Surprised? Here\’s all the news you can possibly stomach from the Concord Monitor, Washington Post, AdNag, Slate and the New Hampshire Union Leader (memeorandum made that easy); then there\’s the LA Times, USA Today, Newsweek… and now I\’ll stop.
