Barney Frank’s Priority

Rep. Barney Frank\’s Priority

"Ethnic cleansing by inaction."

That was how Representative Barney Frank described the afternmath of Katrina,
when Mr. Bush and the Republican Congress chose to do nothing in the face of
the carnage.

Here\’s how the Republicans view Katrina.

The latest elected official to step into the swamp was Rep. Richard
H. Baker, a 10-term Republican from Baton Rouge. The Wall Street Journal reported
yesterday that he was overheard telling lobbyists: "We finally cleaned
up public housing in New Orleans. We couldn\’t do it, but God did."

Some
GOP Legislators Hit Jarring Notes in Addressing Katrina

Charming, isn\’t it?

Visiting us in the blogger room, Frank stood up and delivered comments that
started with Katrina but went all the way through the Iraq war. However, it
was his comments on Katrina that were so moving. That\’s where the oversight investigations need to begin, as far as Frank is concerned. But he also talked about economic
justice. The Democrats have arrived.
