Off to Washington, D.C.

Today is a travel day for me.
I\’m on my way to D.C. to watch, report and enjoy the festivities of the swearing
in of the Democratic Congress, which happens tomorrow.
Finally, the the first female Speaker of the
House in U.S. history, Nancy Pelosi. What a thrill for us all. What makes it even sweeter is Congressman
Joe Sestak and all the Democrats taking charge, which includes our important
new Democratic senators, starting with the esteemed senator from Virginia, James Webb.
It should be a lot of fun, too. I\’ll be at the Netroots party on Thursday night. Looking forward to it. Hope to get some pictures. I\’ll be posting while in D.C., and I also hope to snag some interviews, though you never know. It\’s likely to be a bit crazy. I\’ll check back within the day.
But as I get ready to take off, I\’ve got to say there is a real sense of excitement building. I\’m still cautious, because of Iraq and all that\’s left undone and the escalation Mr. Bush plans, but a new wind is blowing. Unfortunately, the first blast was gale force winds in Senator Leahy\’s direction. It foreshadows some serious fights coming.
The Justice Department has declined to provide documents on the CIA\’s detention and interrogation of terror suspects that were requested by a Democratic Senator.
In a letter to incoming Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT), the Justice Department said it \”was not in a position\” to give him copies of the the two documents he had requested in November.
Shorter version from Justice: Go Cheney yourself! This is going to get interesting.
