About the AFSCME Forum Coverage

I\’m in Carson City to cover the first \’08 presidential forum featuring
almost all of the Democratic field. A word about that coverage is in order.
AFSCME is sponsoring me for today\’s event. It begins at 3:00 p.m. eastern – 12:00 p.m. pacific and can be seen on C-SPAN.

I have written about most of the people who are attending the event,
as well as one prominent Democratic presidential hopeful who isn\’t.
This includes reporting critically about candidates when facts were presented
that needed to be revealed. Feel free to click on the tags above and research
the posts I\’ve written on most of the candidates. There are, however, some candidates
I have not covered at all. Two are Senators Dodd and Biden, both of whom I\’ve
contacted, via their campaigns, to see if I can interview them. Biden\’s representative
seemed very receptive. I understand that the blogosphere is hostile to his candidacy,
but he\’s a serious person on national security that deserves to be heard. Mr.
Richardson\’s people contacted me about an interview, but after I said I\’d enjoy
speaking with him, they have not followed up on subsequent emails I\’ve sent.
No doubt they\’re all busy, so I\’ll keep you posted. Other campaigns are welcomed
to contact me. I\’d be pleased to chat with any one of the major Democratic presidential
hopefuls. It\’s my job.

Every single candidate participating in the AFSCME co-sponsored debate will
get the best objective viewing I can offer. As I\’ve said before, I have no candidate
in the \’08 race. In fact, I may never come out and support anyone
until after our nominee is chosen.

Let me also emphasize that my previous opinions and postings, as well as my
radio shows covering the candidates, have no bearing whatsoever on my AFSCME
sponsored coverage, as much as that is possible for any
person. In full disclosure, I have said on my radio show that I don\’t know if
I can support Senator Clinton, because of her Iraq vote and her unwillingness
to admit it was a mistake. But Clinton will get a fair shake from me, as will all the others in attendance. I\’m going
listen, then report to you my first hand observations and impressions on the
content and performance, as well as the reception each candidate receives.

I have no agenda for the AFSCME forum, except to provide you with the best
coverage I can. It should be very interesting. It\’s the first side-by-side look
at most of the Democratic hopefuls for \’08. I\’m thrilled to be covering it for AFSCME.
