Carson City Democratic Forum Preview

Carson City Democratic Forum Preview
Coverage sponsored by AFSCME

Adele\’s was built in 1864.

Well, I\’m here and obviously I\’m set up in the media room. All media will be
watching the Forum via feeds, as usual. Roger Simon,
our friend from Politico is here and I spoke with him earlier. I asked him how
he liked working for the Politico.com. He said it\’s like working for a college newspaper
again, \”very loose.\” I introduced myself as one of those \”nasty
bloggers\” out here on the web. He laughed and said something complimentary.
Very cordial, though I did get the feeling he didn\’t know quite what to say after my intro.

I\’m sitting next to Debra Saunders of the San Francisco. She\’s one of the many
people I\’ve been speaking with who believe that the public is likely to get
tired of a two year election season. As I\’ve said often, one of the reasons
this is starting so early and with such furor is that everyone wants to put
George W. Bush behind them. So I don\’t think the problem will be 2007. I think
the tune out factor starts in 2008.

I stayed in Reno last night and drove to Carson City this morning. I started
off the day by taking a walking tour of \”downtown\” Carson City. That\’s
in quotes because it\’s actually a village, a wonderfully quaint town, just lovely.

Adele\’s restaurant greets you and was constructed in 1867. The restaurant itself started around one
hundred years later.

KIT CARSON

The first restaurant in town is an old red building that looks like it\’s under
construction and is located in the middle of the state capitol buildings. Rooms are available is the advertisement, just in case you\’re in Carson City and want to try something authentic.

There is snow in the mountains and a serious blizzard expected this evening. When I was walking around I engaged a local in conversation, complimenting her on the charm of Caron City. She said, \”Yeah, I moved away, but then it sucked me back in.\” That\’s the way with small towns. Even as a big city girl I can certainly appreciate why people love living in them.

On the way to Carson City, which is about a 30 minute drive from Reno, I got a real treat, at least for me. Beautiful Canadian geese were floating in the field marshes
between Reno and Carson City. They\’re just gorgeous birds. A couple flew above
me at one point, diving and jetting through the air. It\’s always such a treat for me to see birds of neighboring areas or migrating birds. I\’m not a Nevadan and have never been to Carson City, but it\’s nice country up here. Oh, and by the way, the pronunciation is Ne-va(as in \”at\”)-dan, not Ne-vah-dan. I never get that one right.

AFSCME is taking very good care of me, getting me all I needed. Pure class.

That\’s it for now. Some of the candidates are offering media availability.
We\’ll see what develops, but it all starts at 3:00 p.m. eastern – 12:00 p.m. pacific and you can see it all on C-SPAN.

Oh, and by the way, for the other news of the day check out my new \”Hot Topics.\” Both Eric and Mash (his story here) have both posted interesting stuff. While I\’m on assignment today, please check it out and add yours if you\’ve got a good one. …and don\’t forget to sign the petition against Fox \”News\” hosting the Nevada debate. Myrna, who used to guest blog here, has more.
