Smerconish to Replace Imus updated
![]() |
Just once I’d like a woman to be considered. Just. Once.
According to an April 20 article on Philly.com, the website of The Philadelphia
Inquirer, “The Big Talker 1210 AM morning show of Daily News columnist
Michael Smerconish is to be simulcast Monday through Wednesday on MSNBC.”
The article noted that Smerconish will fill the slot previously held by Imus
in the Morning. MSNBC announced on April 11 that it would no longer broadcast
Imus in the wake of comments made by host Don Imus on the April 4 edition
of that show, during which he referred to the Rutgers University women’s basketball
team as “nappy-headed hos.” – Media

Then again, to be more specific, what’s wrong with considering a progressive?
Instead we get another frickin’ white guy. Chris Matthews foreshadowed this
development because he’s been pimping Smerconish like an agent for months. Notice who’s among Mr. S’s first guests?
But seriously, what’s wrong with Stephanie Miller? She’s syndicated and incredibly
talented. She’s also a woman. What about Ms. Rhodes? Speaking of capable women (ahem),
I’d obviously be great for the spot, but MSNBC would never consider me because
my show isn’t on the air (streams online), so my audience is small by comparison.
But honest to God I just wish these network honchos and everyone else chiming
in would consider putting a woman in the host spot. But if they won’t do that,
why not offer a co-host spot with Smerconish, having at least a liberal to balance
his male wingnut views?
The Big Talker 1210 AM morning show of Daily News columnist Michael Smerconish
is to be simulcast Monday through Wednesday on MSNBC, the network confirmed
Friday. The show will air on MSNBC from 6 to 9 a.m. That slot until last week belonged
to radio host Don Imus. MSNBC fired Imus April 11 over the controversy following
his on-air comments about the Rutgers women’s basketball team.On April 12, CBS Radio followed suit and dumped Imus’s syndicated radio program.
Smerconish announced Friday that his guests Monday will include comedian
Jackie Mason, Nicetown native and MSNBC host Chris Matthews, terrorism expert
Richard Clarke and Jon Anderson from the band Yes, singing live in studio.
… ..
As quickly as things change they stay the same. What century is this again?
Let MSNBC know how you feel:

UPDATE (11:11 a.m. – 4.21.07): Well done, everyone who is sending emails. We’re trying to get across that Keith Olbermann has been great for MSNBC’s profit motive. Hiring people like Rhodes, Miller, myself or other progressives will continue strengthening the demographic that actually brings advertising rates up for MSNBC. Keep emailing, be respectful, but show them you’re serious. Get your friends to email. Make suggestions on a progressive you’d like to see on the air and would support. Don’t stop! Again, well done.
