Congratulations, Democrats

Dear Democrats in the Congress,

How did you manage this one?

The percentage of Americans with a “great deal” or “quite
a lot” of confidence in Congress is at 14%, the lowest in Gallup’s history
of this measure — and the lowest of any of the 16 institutions tested in
this year’s Confidence in Institutions survey. It is also one of the lowest
confidence ratings for any institution tested over the last three decades.
… ..

Americans’ Confidence
in Congress at All-Time Low

Seriously, I didn’t think anyone could be worse than Bill Frist and Tom Delay.
However, even their 19% in June 2006 is better than your 14% right now. So it
appears even the rubber stamping Republican Congress is held in higher esteem
than the war railing, spine collapsing Democratic majority the people entrusted
with their votes last November.

It’s due to many factors, I’m sure, but none is more obvious than the total
and complete leadership collapse on Iraq. Just read Senator
Levin’s editorial
today, on a day where we find out we’ve lost fourteen
solders in forty-eight hours. Levin gives us a two-fer, so to speak: he says no to what the majority of Americans want, which is out of Iraq; while also saying that to want to get out of Iraq by redeploying, the Democrats are not supporting the troops. Classic stuff from a guy who doesn’t even understand the importance of getting our cars to 21st century fuel standards. Good Democrat, isn’t he. Insert picture of Levin standing with Missouri’s anti-environmental Sen. Kitt Bond, and you’ve got the picture.

Americans respect going down in a fight on principle. What we don’t understand
is going down in a fight by actually voting for your own policy’s demise. You
hearing me, Harry? Mr. Levin? Democrats in Congress can talk a blue streak about
how their majority isn’t enough to get past a presidential veto or to even get
their preferred plan for Iraq out of Congress. But you sure as hell don’t get
it done by not voting for the principles you told the American people you’d
fight to manifest.

So, congratulations Democrats in Congress. Now the question is whether your poll
numbers have hit as low as they can go. Somehow, given your current performance,
I doubt it.
