Obama: ‘D-Punjab’ Remark ‘Stupid’

Ya think?

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama referred to as “stupid”
and “caustic” his campaign’s memo last week that implied rival Hillary
Clinton’s investments in India made the her fit to represent the south Asian
country.

“It was a screw-up on the part of our research team,” Obama, a
U.S. senator from Illinois, said during a meeting today with Des Moines Register
editors and reporters. “It wasn’t anything I had seen or my senior staff
had seen.”

The comments were the first in public by Obama about a research document
circulated last week by his campaign referring to Clinton as “D-Punjab,”
a play on journalistic shorthand meant to suggest the senator from New York
as a Democrat representing a state in India. … ..

Obama:
Campaign’s ‘Punjab’ remark was ‘stupid’

Thanks to rl for the link. It’s getting a lot of attention now.

Candidate Obama has apologized and took responsibility for the document his
people put together
, which is all he can do at this point. I received a statement
last week, but hadn’t seen anything from Obama himself, which I believe was important.
Now that Obama has weighed in, here’s the statement.

“Barack Obama has been a longtime friend of the Indian-American
community and our campaign is fortunate to have strong support from Indian
Americans across the country. The intent of the document was to discuss the
issue of outsourcing, but we regret the tone that parts of the document took.”

– David Plouffe, Obama campaign mgr.

See why I didn’t offer it up earlier?

But I told you we’d hear The Candidate didn’t know anything about it. I’ll
just ask one question. Who made the decision to release the document and does
Obama have a Donald Segretti on his “research team?” If you don’t
know who he is this is the moment to look it up.
