Much more of Webb vs. Graham
Bush, Bill and Lindsay, what a crew. The Republicans really are the biggest bunch of desperate losers. Today, even though we’ve learned the Saudis are shipping their suicide bombers to Iraq (totalling 45% of all foreign militants in Iraq), and Al Qaeda does “not account for most of the violence in Iraq” (source: Initial Benchmark Assessment Report), Lindsay Graham took over where Brig. Gen. Kevin J. Bergner left off (video). To top it off, Bush is going to stand around and do absolutely nothing while the
Iraq parliament goes on vacation in August. Way to support the troops. While the Iraqi parliament stands down, our soldiers will stand up. Well done, GOP.
I am still not sure that I believe it: The Iraqi parliament is going on vacation
during the month of August. The White House offers the lame excuse that, after all, Baghdad is hot in
August – sometimes 130 degrees.May I ask a follow-up?
How much hotter do you suppose it is if you are a wearing a helmet, full
body armor, carrying ammunition and walking foot patrols through Baghdad? The last I heard, that is how American troops are spending their August in
Iraq.For me, this does it. … ..
Bob
Schieffer: The Iraqi Parliament’s August Vacation Is Too Much
But this seems to be no big deal for the neocon wingnuts.
First, William
Kristol decided to try his hand one step beyond fiction, to outright fantasy.
Talking about George W. Bush being a “winning” president is a flight
into Never, Never land.
However, having Lindsay Graham lecturing James Webb, whose son is a soldier in Iraq, while ignoring the Webb amendment that
went down this week, 56-41,
with 3 not voting, is an insult too far. Here’s how it read.
To specify minimum periods between deployment of units and members of the
Armed Forces for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
You really need to ask yourself why Republicans wouldn’t vote for an amendment
that aided our troops and supported a better strategy on deployments. But today
on “Meet the Press, Lindsay Graham’s spittle came close to flying through
the tv screen. He also wouldn’t shut up, as Graham completely unraveled;
all the while James Webb just smiled at this classic “Meet the Press” meltdown.
But just when you think the Republicans couldn’t get any worse, do any more damage to the troops or insult we the people any further, Bush goes one step further claiming executive privilege on
certain Pat Tillman document’s relating to his friendly-fire death. Could there
be any more heinous act than to deny the truth about how a fallen military hero met his fate?
The White House has refused to give Congress documents about the death of
former NFL player Pat Tillman, with White House counsel Fred Fielding saying
that certain papers relating to discussion of the friendly-fire shooting “implicate
Executive Branch confidentiality interests.”Reps. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and Tom Davis (R-Va.), the leading members
of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, objected to the
refusal Friday in letters to the White House and the Defense Department.
If Bill Kristol thinks that’s a “winning” presidency in action, just
remember he was also once was Dan Quayle’s guy.
As for Lindsay Graham, he’s McCain’s man.
However, you have to ask what’s Mr. Bush’s excuse and what will he be doing as U.S. casualties mount in August
while the members of the Iraqi parliament sip cocktails in the shade?
Our soldiers will be fighting and dying for Iraq.
