The lefties are coming. NO, the lefties are taking over! Boo-hoo,
now we’ll never win. So laments the Fox “News” channel’s
latest Democratic analyist, Harold Ford Jr. Concern
troll, indeed.
I’d like to introduce Mr. Ford to Senators Webb and Tester, not to mention
Rep. Joe Sestak, among others. Oh, and it’s not about finding the “middle.”
It’s about being right on the merits of your argument. Ford comes up short on that
one time and time again.
“They’ll find their way back to the middle. And if they don’t, they
won’t win.” So says a blunt Harold Ford Jr., chairman of the Democratic
Leadership Council, of his party’s current crop of presidential candidates.
The question is just how many would-be Democratic presidents recognize the
wisdom of his words.Mr. Ford is in a feisty mood throughout our chat, as well he might be given
the shelling his group has recently endured at the keyboards of the far left.
Skip back 15 years, and the DLC stood as the proud architect of Bill Clinton’s
“New Democrat” campaign victory. Liberals derided the outfit’s goals
of nosing the party back toward the political center, but Mr. Clinton understood
the perils of running as Jimmy Carter. He took the DLC’s advice, talked up
“opportunity, responsibility, community” and won. That is, if his party doesn’t blow it. … ..
Democratic
Dustup
The far left isn’t the path to a governing majority.
Blow it? You mean the way we blew it in 2006 campaigning against the Iraq war?
The only way Democrats will blow it is to continue to offer spineless examples of the worst of the Democratic party, like what they did on the FISA bill. Adding injury to that insult, the other thing Democrats can do to lose is forget why they were elected: to end the Iraq war, something that Ford and other “moderates” aren’t exactly working very hard to do.
It will be interesting to see Messrs. Ford and Moulitsas on “Meet the
Press” this Sunday. Hope they’re debating and not in separate segments.
It might be early, but it just might rate a champagne breakfast.
Oh, and by the way, I still don’t regret backing Ford, as well as writing positive
posts in favor of his candidacy, especially against Corker. I’d do it again.
However, against any other progressive Ford comes up way short, which he seems
to delight in proving every time he opens his mouth (or goes
on Fox “News”).
