The DLC is up front and center and a huge part of the conversation these days,
especially after YearlyKos got the coup of all the presidential candidates,
while the DLC got bupkis. Some of you have also been talking about the Blue
Dog Democrats, whom I have written about before.
Booman
has the list. You know, of all those middle of the roaders, always centering,
strategery thinkers that make sure their arguments are always placed dead,
um, center. Because the “middle,” for the sake of being there, is job one.
Well, via several emails, I’ve learned that Harold Ford Jr. seems to prefer
not only Fox “News,” but just about anybody but progressive Democrats
these days, especially us dirty YearlyKos attendees. First, he not only sent
out an email touting the DLC, which he’s paid to do and I completely get. But
attached to the email was the hideous Wall Street Journal article I
wrote about earlier, where Ford said, paraphrasing now, if people follow progressives
we’re going to lose. Subtle Harold is not.
But just how do you pick the “middle” in an argument? Check progressive
opinions, then right-wingers, and throw a dart at the middle of both arguments?
Anyone passionate about what they know and believe would certainly just pick
that which moves them, right? Cull, craft, create, hold the passion. How very DLC.
But the GOP campaigning for Harold Ford and the DLC, via video? Way to go, Harold.
After all, Ford can’t be
seen engaging with us bloggers (or progressive radio hosts, let me add). That
would be just, too, I don’t know, strong a stance for someone who likes to straddle. It’s so important to be able to move backwards or forwards between positions at will. It makes flip flopping look principled.
