The Post really needs to get a grip on their headlines. The sub-heading
practically gives you whiplash after reading the main title. It doesn’t come close to explaining our reality
in Iraq, especially when you listen to the caveats. Caffeine alert:

worry about underestimating an enemy that has shown great resilience in the
past.

official said of a victory declaration over AQI, as the group is known. Despite
recent U.S. gains, he said, AQI retains “the ability for surprise and
for catastrophic attacks.” Earlier periods of optimism, such as immediately
following the June 2006 death of AQI founder Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in a U.S.
air raid, not only proved unfounded but were followed by expanded operations
by the militant organization.

There is widespread agreement that AQI has suffered major blows over the

Bobby Ghosh on “Hardball” said this story and headline reminded him
of Bush’s “Mission Accomplished” stunt.

Let’s also remember that the main action is between Sunni and Shia. Al Qaeda
is in the mix, but they’re not the main event.

The headline writers of the Post are turning into quite the cheerleaders.
It’s not helpful in the least.
