After George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, how can Democrats not look back on the
1990s with fondness?
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton has neutralized the political fallout from some
of the most difficult moments of her eight years as first lady, with Democratic
voters looking favorably on her failed effort to revamp healthcare and either
supporting or having no opinion of her decision to remain loyal to an unfaithful
husband, a new Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll shows. The positive impression of Clinton’s White House years — which is shared,
though more faintly, among the broader public — is helping propel her to
a formidable lead over her rivals for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Clinton leads the No. 2 contender, Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, 48% to 17%.Her support has risen 15 percentage points since the last nationwide Times/Bloomberg
poll in June, while Obama’s support has fallen 5 percentage points. … ..
No doubt, many activists blame Clinton for the loss of power in Congress. But
to your average voter that flies right over their heads. They remember Bill
Clinton being beloved around the world, America respected, with some of the
nagging, many would say important details like NAFTA, disappearing because of
the disaster of Dubya’s reign; and with the knowledge of hindsight, a chance to fix the failures.
Clinton’s national perception advantage over Obama is staggering, with Edwards
having a tough time getting any traction outside Iowa. Clinton’s riding her husband’s wave, no doubt, but she’s made the most of it and is amplifying it with her own hard work on the campaign trail. And with Obama’s
recent stumbles, particularly this debacle with Donnie McClurkin, you’ve got
to wonder if the wheels aren’t starting to come off. Aravosis
is eviscerating Mr. Obama daily, revealing something unseemly about Obama’s message of hope and bringing us all together, though I’ve never been too impressed with that strategy.
Barack Obama’s good buddy, the religious right singer who thinks gays are
out to kill your children and therefore need to be cured, now says that he’s
never said anything at all about gays needing to be cured. Funny, then, that
Donnie McClurkin let himself be profiled on the lead “gays
can be cured” Web site, Exodus International. … ..
