Clinton Beats Obama
To paraphrase Joe Trippi from yesterday’s Edwards fundraising call, Clinton
doesn’t want this primary shaped around money. This calculation is not
only wrong, but it could cost Edwards his shot. But that’s their gamble to make.
With Obama’s at $20 ($19 for the primary) million, which wowed everyone, and
Edwards at $7 million, not counting the matching funding, which will be $10
million, he’s close behind Obama in money. Clinton put them both together to
end up with $27 ($20 $22 m. — according to the campaign — for the primary) million. The campaign is touting a
big push from smaller donors and grassroots supporters.
Clinton for the first time appeared to find wider success raising money from
grassroots supporters – her campaign said it received checks from more than
100,000 new donors, more than double the number of donors who gave to her
during the first three months of her campaign.
Democrats are creaming Republicans in the money race.
There is also a new Zogby poll out of New Hampshire. Right now Clinton owns
it.
New York Sen. Hillary Clinton has extended her lead in the race for the Democratic
Party’s presidential nomination in New Hampshire, capturing 38% support
as the contest enters the crucial fall phase, a new NewsMax/Zogby International
telephone poll shows.Illinois Sen. Barack Obama has slipped slightly but retains a strong grasp
on second place with 23% support, while former senator John Edwards of North
Carolina faded to 12%, the survey shows. Ten percent said they remain unsure
about who to support in the race.Newsmax/Zogby poll
shows Obama holding steady; Clinton escapes taint of Norman Hsu money scandal
Classic headline above isn’t it? It’s just one reason I think Edwards focusing
on the money angle of Clinton’s campaign is such a huge mistake. With war raging,
and the health care debate foremost in many peoples minds, the money slushing
around in the presidential primary isn’t the uppermost concern.
What perfect timing for Sally
Bedell Smith’s hit piece, laid out in a Vanity Fair excerpt of her new book.
It comes complete with missing Camelot photos of J.F.K., who was also the
target of Ms. Smith. I utilized “Grace and Power” in my one woman
political show, which for the first time revealed Jackie Kennedy’s smoking habits
and much more. That some
bozo over at DailyKos (waiting for Gore to enter the race) plays stenographer, without any critical analysis,
is all the more annoying. But I’ve come to expect the worse from people when
it comes to Clinton, even from Democrats. Now that she’s rising higher it’s only going to get louder.
