Not long ago I emailed Gore’s spokesperson Kalee Kreider to tell her that if
all the rumors swirling and stories were true, today she’d hear a very high
note from one former Broadway performer in sheer delight at the gift coming
due. Shortly after it was announced she sent the following statement to me and
some others.
I am deeply honored to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. This award
is even more meaningful because I have the honor of sharing it with the Intergovernmental
Panel on Climate Change–the world’s pre-eminent scientific body devoted
to improving our understanding of the climate crisis–a group whose members
have worked tirelessly and selflessly for many years. We face a true planetary
emergency. The climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and
spiritual challenge to all of humanity. It is also our greatest opportunity
to lift global consciousness to a higher level. My wife, Tipper, and I will donate 100 percent of the proceeds of
the award to the Alliance for Climate Protection, a bipartisan non-profit
organization that is devoted to changing public opinion in the U.S. and around
the world about the urgency of solving the climate crisis.Former Vice President Al Gore, Nobel Laureate
The
Nobel Committee said that Gore was the "the single individual who has
done most" on global warming. That’s for sure.
I thought I’d once again share the
conversation (audio)
the former Vice President had with a small group of bloggers when his last book
"Assault on Reason" came out.
"This book, unlike the President’s State of the Union Address,
has been fact-checked." – Vice
President Al Gore
It’s a
remarkable back and forth that I think you’d enjoy if you haven’t heard
it already, including quite an exchange between he and I over Iraq. I was the one woman on the call. A speech Mr. Gore gave about his book (via PoliticsTV) is also amazing to watch.
I know there are many of you hoping that he will pivot, walk forward and announced
a bid for the presidency. I honestly don’t see that happening, but DraftGore
is giving it their all. I understand because I campaigned hard for the man in
2000 and have respected him for a lot of years. If you’d like to see some amazing video of Gore, there’s him blasting Bush for domestic spying, talking about what we owe those who come after us. No one person has done more to make sure we know what’s at stake.
Now get prepared for the onslaught, because the wingnuts will start their swiftboating
this great patriot before the day is done.
