Harsh review alert!
Many people are citing the fact that during Mr. Obama’s foreign policy speech
in Iowa yesterday there was silence throughout.
The crowd of about 200 people at Drake University’s Old Main did not
applaud until the end of his 20 minute speech.
This speech should have been
an Obama crowd pleaser. As talented as this man is it’s odd that he didn’t just
get up and let fly, especially on material he knows backwards and forwards.
It’s really simple what happened. In the Know Your Material Department,
Barack Obama failed terribly. He appears distracted, uninterested, lacking in
conviction or inspiration. To say he’s flat is an understatement, but the trouble
isn’t anything other than he doesn’t seem to have known his own speech. I haven’t
counted how many times he raises and lowers his head, seemingly to look at the
text of his speech, but it would be a great drinking game. I doubt any of us
would make it through the whole speech without passing out.
It’s odd this speech would be uploaded on Obama’s official YouTube site (h/t to reader leaf). It
would be better for Barack if it just passed away, because as someone who has given bad performances of my own, these are the types of displays it’s better to forget, not immortalize on YouTube. Someone on team Obama needs to understand that offering every word the man utters isn’t a great idea.
