Brian Katulis-Center for American Progress-talks about Iraq, civilian displacement, & $$$
Brian Katulis a senior fellow with the American Progress will be on the show today and we’ll be talking about all things Iraq. The paper Strategic Drift in Iraq will be up front and center, as will the news that the Joint Economic Committee announced the Iraq and Afghanistan wars combined now cost the average American family $20 thousand dollars. Think about that one for a minute.
The $1.6 trillion figure, for the period from 2002 to 2008, translates into a cost of $20,900 for a family of four, the report said. The Bush administration has requested $804 billion for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars combined, the report stated.
For the Iraq war only, total economic costs were estimated at $1.3 trillion for the period from 2002 to 2008. That would cost a family of four $16,500, the report said.
Future economic costs would be even greater. The report estimated that both wars would cost $3.5 trillion between 2003 and 2017. Under that scenario, it would cost a family of four $46,400, the report said. … ..
Lots to talk about. More on Edwards and Clinton from Craig Crawford.
“The differences between Sen. Clinton and myself are bigger than they are with Sen. Obama,” Edwards said, going on to speak warmly about the Illinois senator who stands in his way as the main alternative to the New York senator who leads the pack.
There is no such warmth when Edwards speaks of Clinton — so much so that it is not unthinkable that a loss in Iowa, where the 2004 vice presidential nominee has put the bulk of his effort, might prompt him to endorse Obama well before the Feb. 5 multi-state primaries when Clinton hopes to clinch the nomination.
Then we would finally find out just how much Edwards dislikes her.
Hope you can join us.
