Rudy, Bernie and Judy… and Fox

Salon.com has more

Kerik was bad enough. Needless to say, Rudy’s rivals pounced.

But this
is just too delicious.

One of the things Wayne Barrett, a biographer of Rudy Giuliani, said was that part
of Bernie Kerik’s indictment likely came from Judith Regan. She could be
“the publisher” referred to below:

(d) In or about January 2002, BERNARD B. KERIK signed a contract with a book
publisher to write a forward for a book. The publisher paid KERIK a total
of approximately $75, 953 in fees and royalties over a three year period from
2002 to 2004 in exchange for these services. Kerik never told his return preparers
about the fees and royalties he earned from the book and failed to report
such income on his 2002, 2003 and 2004 U.S. Individual Income Tax Returns.

30. Among the false deductions BERNARD B. KERIK claimed on his U.S. Individual
Tax Returns are the following:

(a) In early 2003, BERNARD B. KERIK falsely advised his accountant that he
made $80,000 in charitable contributions. … ..

Regan supposedly has more dirt, which she claims she can prove. We shall see.

She alleges that in December 2004, after President Bush tapped Kerik
for the homeland security post, a senior News Corp. executive told her he
believed she knew things about Kerik “that if disclosed, would harm Kerik’s
Homeland Security nomination, and more importantly, Giuliani’s planned presidential
campaign.”

Publisher
says she was told to lie to protect Giuliani

This will be a slow drip-drip-drip throughout the primary season. If Rudy weathers
the primary scalding he’s going to take, especially once Slick Mitt really digs in
on him, during the general election just imagine the news cycles he’ll have
to weather.

As for Fox, on page 44 of Regan’s lawsuit the header gets interesting: News
Corp.’s Double Standard for Men and Women.
Now let’s get something
straight, Regan is no daisy and has a legendary reputation. How she’s going
to pull of this one I have no idea and don’t actually care. The section is
short, too, and frankly, who knows if she can prove this section or any
other part of the lawsuit, but I enjoyed reading parts of it because Bill-O
was mentioned in this particular section, as Regan reminds Fox of the sexual
harassment lawsuit they paid off for O’Reilly. The pdf of the Reagan lawsuit
is on Smoking
Gun
.

125. Even if Regan had been solely responsible for “controversial”
projects (such as OJ Simpson and Mickey Mantle), the fact that she would be
fired and smeared as a result is clear evidence of News Corp.’s double standard
and discrimination against women. In fact, News Corp. does not have a single
woman on its Board of Directors.

126. These are numerous reports of shocking and offensive behavior engaged
in by high-ranking men at News Corp. These include Bill O’Reilly (who reportedly
paid millions of dollars to resolve a sexual harassment suit brought by a
female producer of Fox News, and who was recently accused of making racist
and hateful comments when he discussed a trip with Rev. Al Sharpton to a restaurant
in Harlem), Col Allan (who reportedly received sexual favors from strippers
at Manhattan topless bar Scores, which in turn received much favorable coverage
in the New York Post, and who reportedly tied to intimidate employees by urinating
in his office washbin during editorial meetings), and Joe Chillemi (Fox News
vice president who was recently sued by the EEOC for sexual discrimination
and harassment).

It’s interesting when you think about the footage Robert Greenwald put together and the post I did on Fox selling sex, which doesn’t do them any good, especially if advertisers start hearing it from people. It’s a dual track that could raise the temperature on Fox, though it didn’t phase O’Reilly last night who showed T&A in one of his segments. But it’s clear from Greenwald’s videos that Fox loves to show women in hard news segments, including when they showed bikini shots during a serial killer segment. Interesting timing and not good publicity at this moment either. Wouldn’t it be lovely if Regan’s lawyers got a hold of Greenwald’s videos?

The lawsuit goes on to talk about HarperCollins, saying that they also had
a discriminatory environment, with reference to her “golden v—–”
the only reason for her successes.

Alrighty then. Moving right along. Regan wants $100 million for her troubles. Good luck with that one.

However, Rudy’s got to be reeling. As for Fox “News,” his presidential benefactor,
I hope Ailes is sweating bullets. The bad press alone for Fox is positively
scrumptious, though you won’t hear a word of it from them. But between Regan and the Fox revelations, Rudy’s presidential hopes depend on whether people like Sean Hannity and el Rushbo can save his shiny bald dome. Wingnut radio will be working overtime. Judith (Mrs. 9/11 won’t allow anyone to call her Judy anymore) Giuliani’s tiara won’t be seen for a while.

Pat Robertson better start praying.
