Chris Matthews not only has disgraced himself on “Hardball” with
his Clinton marriage obsession, but talking about Bob Kerrey being a “castrata”
in a “eunuch chorus” because he is supporting Clinton proves he has
lost his mind. That he also reinvigorated the old ball busting stereotype for
strong women did not go unnoticed by some of us. Matthews doesn’t stop there
either. Bob Kerrey used to be “independent,” but now that he’s supporting Clinton it’s the “invasion of the body
snatchers.”
As for the other issue Bob Kerrey brought up today, via
Ben Smith and a reader over a Politico.com, it turns out that former Senator
Kerrey has talked about Barack Obama in the same manner long before he endorsed
Hillary Clinton, though he’s financially supported her for some time. In October,
he spoke
to the Economist, talking about Obama, which I
have no intention of repeating. I find it scurrilous,
but Kerrey never has had any trouble running
his mouth off all by himself. Kerrey’s not one of my favorites, let me just
say, though he redeemed himself quite a bit with his 9/11 Commission appearances,
especially when he took Condi to the mat for her “swatting flies” slap at Bill Clinton.
But getting back to Matthews, he should take a lesson from Steve
Clemons, who in a world of drivel rises above to actually focus on facts:
… .. I have been very critical of both, and applauded both. I did not like
Hillary Clinton’s embrace of the Bush administration’s policy of keeping Cubans
isolated from us while nearly every other nation in the world — even Israel
— is engaged commercially and increasingly culturally with Cuba. … ..That said, there is a great deal I do admire in Hillary Clinton — and one
of the things that simply can’t be disputed is her work ethic. I’ve met her
a number of times, usually at receptions — and each time I decided not to
waste the moment with trivial banter but to throw an idea at her or mention
a person or issue that would help me understand how real, how informed, or
alternatively — how contrived — she was.Every single time she jumped on the issue I brought up and expressed two
or three dimensions to the issue that showed she was deeply steeped in this
or that policy. In my New America Foundation role, I helped build and support
programs as diverse as debates about genetic scientific advancements to family
work issues, health care, and wireless spectrum — not to mention my own core
interests in foreign policy, national security/defense issues, and international
economic policy. Hillary Clinton and I have had quick encounters that involved
her sharing incredibly diverse and serious policy commentary. … ..
Clemons is a rarity. As for the rest, I expect this crap from Drudge. But Ezra
Klein fell into the wingnut trap in the LA Times yesterday: The
polarizing express. Clinton is polarizing! Democrats, run for the hills!
Mind you, there isn’t one word about the right-wing machine, wingnut radio,
or how Clinton got to be so polarizing. Yo, Ezra, you try taking 15 years of
flak from, well, flaks like Chris Matthews and his good friend Sean
Hannity and every other wingnut. How about a little push back instead?
Call me a contrarian, but targeting Clinton for sport has put me on offense,
as it has quite a few women I’ve talked to lately. Via email just today:
You know, I didn’t start out this primary supporting Clinton; I was planning
to vote for Edwards. But, after reading the “boys on the blogs”
for a year now, I’ve switched, and I’m supporting Hillary Clinton. As a longtime
progressive blog reader, I’m disgusted by the clear MISOGYNY rearing its ugly
head on progressive blogs. I am outraged by it. As a woman, I feel like I’ve
been transported back to 1918! Matt Stoller should be ashamed of himself,
as should all the others. Thanks Taylor, your site has become my therapy every
day now. Today I listened to your radio show for the first time. Excellent!
Maybe the truth is that America is still too infantile to elect a bright, competent,
tough and committed woman president. It’s still a beauty contest where women
are concerned, with cads like Matthews relegating Clinton to a ball buster if she gets men to support her. As was stated on Moyer’s
“Journal” recently with Jamieson from Annenberg, nobody has been
subjected to the attacks Hillary Clinton gets daily, or the double standard
on what the traditional media or the blogs cover. I urge you to read the
interview with Moyers and Jamieson again.
Chris Matthews talked about “bimbo eruptions” yet again today. Talk
about penis envy. It’s reaching homoerotic proportions on “Hardball.”
Hmmmm…. … Makes you wonder how Chris picked the name, doesn’t it? Lack of
access has Matthews in full meltdown mode.
Clinton may or may not get the nomination. That’s up to primary voters. But
she deserves, has earned, at least equal or, dare I suggest, fair treatment,
especially from her own. Consider it an early Christmas gift.
Insert Santa Mrs. Claus’s cackle here.
