Rove Rooting for Obama?

via HillaryHub

I’ve got connection finally, after a very long weekend without it. So without
further adieu, I give you Turdblossom. In the Financial
Times
:

TO: Senator Barack Obama

FROM: Karl Rove

SUBJECT: How to Beat Hillary

… .. The good news is you have again got “the buzz”. Polls
are looking better for you in Iowa and the other early states. Your press
is improving, with your performance at the Iowa Jefferson-Jackson dinner a
big help. Hillary Clinton has made unforced errors. But she is still the frontrunner
and there are several things you need to do quickly to win.

First, stop acting like a vitamin-deficient Adlai Stevenson. Striking a pose
of being high-minded and too pure will not work. Americans want to see you
scrapping and fighting for the job, not in a mean or ugly way but in a forceful
and straightforward way. .. …

Classic stuff, especially when you contrast it with what Rove has said about Clinton. After he resigned, Rove went on “Meet the Press” to talk about Clinton’s negatives: she’s polarizing. He was sending a warning to Democrats by hitting Hillary on an angle that genuinely worries some activists. Rove went out of his way to scare potential primary voters away from Hillary using the exact language her Democratic detractors use, obviously trying to enforce them. In doing so, Rove revealed the real Republican fear in running against Hillary. Let’s face it, the old hack attack ads against her won’t work anymore. People are tired of them and after seeing her on the stump the wingnut image just doesn’t match. Now there are other reasons people don’t like her, the Clinton dynasty issue, people think she’s too hawkish, etc., but those aren’t the main theme for Hillary haters. Republicans are also afraid of the women’s vote, which would be huge for Hillary, including in their own party.

Obama certainly doesn’t need Rove’s advice, but it seems really obvious that Turdblossom is actually trying to make the case for Mr. Obama in a way that also illustrates why Republicans could likely beat him easily. Like it or not, the “Adlai Stevenson” charge has been made for a reason. It’s also an easy image for Republicans to beat up on. Rove just may be counting on that and doing his best to make Democrats believe it. Stranger things have happened.
