Obama Uses Reagan ‘I can’t hear you’ Ploy

Stimulus deal reached:

Under the deal, nearly everyone earning a paycheck would receive at least $300 from the Internal Revenue Service. Most workers would receive rebates of $600 each, or $1,200 per couple. Families with children would receive an additional payment of $300 per child. Workers who earned at least $3,000 last year — but not enough to pay income taxes — would be eligible for $300.

Rebates would be limited, however, to single taxpayers who earned up to $75,000 or couples with incomes of as much as $150,000.

Our politicians simply suck. I don’t think a one of them understand the economy at all. What are we going to do about China, the inequities of our trade deal, the rigging of the yuan, free access to U.S. without tariffs, the list is endless. Then there’s oil. Oh, but by all means give certain Amreicans $600. Now there’s nothing wrong with that and it has to be done because Bush has screwed up the economy so badly, but it’s hardly the fix.

As for the video above, we talked about this yesterday on the show, but art illustrates it visually. It comes about 5:00 minutes in, where Obama says he can’t hear the clip.

Enter time machine to the Reagan era. This was something The Gipper did all the time. He’d walk across the lawn of the White House, and when he heard reporters yelling uncomfortable questions at him that he didn’t want to answer, he’d cup his hand behind his ear and give a I can’t hear you gesture.

Obama did the same thing yesterday when challenged on a Clinton ad that shows Obama flip flopping on health care. Amercian Strategies Group called it his Groucho Marx moment: Who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes? Obama pretends not to hear the damning clip, then talks about what he wants to talk about instead. A slick, practiced pol in action.

Most hilarious headline today: Michelle Obama Steps In To Counter Bill Clinton. It should come with a laugh track.

Lots to talk about, including Ed Schultz.

Hope you can join me.
