Obama’s Words on Reagan Dogging Him

via Greg Sargent

What a shock.

But no whining Barack.

Barack Obama sat in a meeting with the Reno Gazette talking about Reagan in
order to get their endorsement in hopes of winning Nevada. He pontificated and pandered on Reagan in order to win. He won over the RJ in Las Vegas, which is
tantamount to being endorsed by the Washington Times. Even after he lost Nevada
he was holding up rural areas like Elko, NV as a sign he could win over Republicans
in the general election. He said so in the debate on Monday. Elko residents
still welcome George W. Bush with open arms and standing ovations. So Obama
winning Elko isn’t exactly a badge of honor.

But today the Obama campaign is evidently crying to reporters about Clinton’s radio ad
in South Carolina. Here’s the transcript:

VOICE-OVER: “Listen to Barack Obama last week talking about Republicans.

BARACK OBAMA: “The Republicans were the party of ideas for a pretty long chunk of time there over the last 10, 15 years.”

VO: “Really? Aren’t those the ideas that got us into the economic mess we’re in today? Ideas like special tax breaks for Wall Street. Running up a $9 trillion debt. Refusing to raise the minimum wage or deal with the housing crisis. Are those the ideas Barack Obama’s talking about?”

BO: “The Republicans were the party of ideas.”

VO: Hillary Clinton thinks this election is about replacing disastrous Republican ideas with new ones, like jump-starting the economy. Putting an immediate freeze on foreclosures and mortgages. Cutting taxes for the middle class. And creating millions of new jobs. With the economy in crisis, we need a president with the ideas, the solutions that get our economy working for all of us. Hillary Clinton. Solutions for America.

Maybe Obama shouldn’t have pandered in Reno on Reagan in the first place. Is
this guy so naive that he actually believed his words wouldn’t be caught then
used on tape against him? Not ready for primetime doesn’t even begin to cover
it.

Obama’s just ticked off because the radio ad is devastating. Because what Reagan did to the African American community and poor people in general, not to mention the middle class, still resonates with people who remember. If he cared about these issues he would have known that from the start.
