“My opponent makes speeches, I offer solutions.”
– Hillary Clinton
in Ohio
Watch Clinton’s speech in Ohio. She’s hitting Obama straight on.
The ad Clinton is running in Wisconsin hits Obama for ducking debates. I guess he could
always phone it in as “present,” because he’s campaigning in the state.
But Clinton’s
closing in Wisconsin, even as she campaigns in Ohio.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey shows Obama with a narrow four-point
advantage over Clinton, 47% to 43%. Nearly one-fourth of the voters say there’s
a good chance they might change their mind. Five percent (5%) of those who
currently support Obama and Clinton say there’s a good chance they could
change their mind before voting.
Clinton has huge leads in Pennsylvania and Ohio, but with weeks ahead those
will tighten. She’s leading in Texas too.
Obama is expected to win in Wisconsin, but how sweet it is that she’s within
the margin of error, with Wisconsin voters also taking a second look.
Clinton’s message is finally sharpening to a razor’s edge,
hitting Obama where he’s weakest: the details and the issues. His record cannot stand
up to his rhetoric, because like with Exelon, he told Iowans he’d passed legislation against that company, when Obama actually softened his legislation to help them. Never mind Exelon is one of his largest contributors. Did the traditional media cover it? Did the Obama blogs? Of course not. Truth is that the more voters hear the differences in what Obama promises, compared to what Clinton can actually deliver, the better it is for
Clinton, but also for Democrats, because come the general election it will take
a lot more than lofty rhetoric to win.
Bottom line, as a friend said to me via email, you can’t eat a speech. Lunch bucket Democrats and blue collar Dems, of which our family is one, don’t care about Obama’s blathering. They want to know what you’re going to do for them to solve their challenges. Stealing Clinton’s economic ideas won’t solve Obama’s problems on issues. It just makes him look weaker.
