At the Jefferson Jackson dinner in Virginia tonight, Obama once again side
stepped the facts, just like he did in Denver. Check
this post out, because his lacking substance rhetoric is just becoming too redundant
for more posts. However, Obama saying he's looking forward to debating John McCain
on foreign policy led to the whopper of the night. From his speech tonight:
… .. Finally, it is time to turn the page on eight years of a foreign policy
that has made us less safe and less respected in the world. If I am the nominee
of this party, John McCain will not be able to say that I agreed with him
on voting for the war in Iraq; agreed with him on giving George Bush the benefit
of the doubt on Iran; and agree with him in embracing the Bush-Cheney policy
of not talking to leaders we don't like. Because that doesn't make us look
strong, it makes us look arrogant. John F. Kennedy said that you should never
negotiate out of fear, but you should never fear to negotiate. And that's
what I will do as President. I don't just want to end this war in Iraq, I
want to end the mindset that got us into war. It is time to turn the page.
… ..
Sound familiar? From
Denver:
“It's time for new leadership that understands that the way to
win a debate with John McCain is not by nominating someone who agreed with
him on voting for the war in Iraq; who agreed with him in voting to give George
Bush the benefit of the doubt on Iran; who agrees with him in embracing the
Bush-Cheney policy of not talking to leaders we don't like, and who
actually differed with him by arguing for exceptions for torture before changing
positions when the politics of the moment changed.”
No one in the history of world politics has gotten more mileage off of one
speech, that is Obama's anti Iraq war speech that at one point he scrubbed from his website. Yeah, that one. But what has Senator Obama done on Iraq lately?
**crickets**
**encore of crickets**
Will Obama's legion of fans care that his rhetoric doesn't match the facts?
They haven't so far. They don't even want specifics.
But on Iran and diplomacy in particular, Obama continues to offer fiction instead of facts,
especially when it comes to Clinton. I hate to sound indelicate, but, I'm sick of it. This baloney from Obama is a flat out lie: “… .. who agrees with him in embracing the Bush-Cheney policy of not talking to leaders we don't like… …”
“It would be a mistake of historical proportion if the administration
thought that the 2002 resolution authorizing force against Iraq was a blank
check for the use of force against Iran without further congressional authorization.
Nor should the President think that the 2001 resolution authorizing force
after the terrorist attacks of 9/11 in any way authorizes force against Iran.
If the administration believes that any, any use of force against Iran is
necessary, the president must come to Congress to seek that authority.”
Then there's this on Clinton's idea of diplomacy. Clinton said she wouldn't promise to meet with dictators in the first year. Obama said he would.
Clinton, in the debate, said she would pursue vigorous diplomacy but she wouldn't make such a promise without knowing the other countries' intent. “I don't want to be used for propaganda purposes,” she said.
Hey, but you Obama fans, keep sucking that propaganda through the hope straw.
It's likely one of the reasons even Obama's fans can't name one thing he's accomplished (see video above).
But the adoration has finally got a name. It comes from Obama's own fan base.
It's called “Obamaphilia.” Yep, it's as creepy and dangerous as it sounds.
You are embarrassing yourselves. With your “Yes We Can” music video,
your “Fired Up, Ready to Go” song, your endless chatter about how
he's the first one to inspire you, to make you really feel something — it's
as if you're tacking photos of Barack Obama to your locker, secretly slipping
him little notes that read, “Do you like me? Check yes or no.” Some
of you even cry at his speeches. If I were Obama, and you voted for me, I
would so never call you again.Obamaphilia has gotten creepy. I couldn't figure out if the two canvassers
who came to my door Sunday had taken Ecstasy or were just fantasizing about
an Obama presidency, but I feared they were going to hug me. Scarlett Johansson
called me twice, asking me to vote for him. She'd never even called me once
about anything else. Not even to see “The Island.” … ..“People are projecting an awful lot onto him,” Mom said. … ..
Thing is, I've watched too many movies and read too many novels; I can't root
against a person who believes he can change the world. The best we Obamaphiles
can do is to refrain from embarrassing ourselves. And I do believe that we
can resist making more “We Are the World”-type videos. We can resist
crying jags. We can resist, in every dinner argument and every e-mail, the
word “inspiration.” Yes, we can.He's
got Obamaphilia
It's embarrassing to be among the fanatics of a relatively mainstream presidential
candidate.
Seriously, is this any way to pick a nominee?
