Why is the Obama Campaign Freaked About a Photo?

We are such children in this country. It’s why I did the story on William Ayers and Obama, which is exactly what the
wingnuts will unload on Mr. Obama, which was greeted with shock and dismay. Obama and his unhinged fans better get a grip, because killing the messenger won’t kill the story come general election time. But even
postulating the likely occurrence had Obamabot heads exploding, due to their fascistic fetish for warning people to shut up, or attacking someone talking about a real issue that will bite Obama when the time is ripe. When you
have reactions like we’re
seeing today
over the shot of Obama in Somali garb, it only proves my point. Dems are in trouble looking towards the general election if this is the best Obama can offer in way of a response.

Obama’s looking more and more like the nominee, though it’s not over quite
yet. So the conservatives finally feel secure enough to start to unload. Dave
Johnson
wrote about some of them yesterday. Drudge blasts the headline today,
blaming everything on the Clinton campaign: CLINTON STAFFERS CIRCULATE ‘DRESSED’
OBAMA
. Maggie Williams responds like an adult running a presidential campaign. I’ve been receiving the photo in my inbox for some time. Of course,
I knew what wingnuts were going to do with it, so even sharing the emails I
offered warnings that it was coming from wingnuts, so it was about to go wide. Knowing what’s coming is always better than being blindsided. We all know what the Obamabots’ reaction would be when this broke, which was bound to happen. Reality is going to be a cold plunge in the deep end of the pool for Obama’s fairy tale land fans.

Here’s one place
where it appeared online, which also came in via email, though who knows where
Drudge and the others got their copy.

An editor’s note on Drudge offers pictures of Hillary, George W. Bush and Bill
Clinton in traditional dress of a country.

It’s ironic that Bush in his traditional dress appeared on major newspapers
across the web. Why is Obama wearing the same type of clothing such a perceived
scandal? Why is Obama’s team acting like a bunch of amateurs? Why is everyone backing away from it, fearful of touching the subject?
This is what senators and presidents do when visiting foreign countries. They
respect the local culture and wear the traditional garb of that country.

Why is Hillary in a scarf, or Bush and Clinton in traditional outfits, so much
different from Obama in the picture above? Why hide it? Why consider it horrific
to see a potential president wearing what is expected when visiting a foreign
land?

The Obama campaign blaming Clinton’s staffers is another distressing point.
If Obama is truly the change we seek, ready to unite us and bring our nation
a different image, why do they care who circulated the shot, even as it’s seen
openly on this site
? What is the Obama campaign afraid of?

The answer to these question reveal a lot about the juvenile nature of this
country when it comes to engaging the world, but also our own prejudices towards
African American cultures, as well as other cultures different from ours. It
also illustrates how difficult an Obama candidacy, when taken into every corner
of this country, is going to be, especially once the GOP’s 527s and the negative mailers
start going out. Being a war hero was not a strong enough defense for John Kerry. Being a devout Christian won’t help explain Louis Farrakhan’s endorsement, let alone this issue that’s been ignored in the primaries. Republicans won’t be so delicate.
Obama’s team needs to quite whining and blaming Clinton and figure out what they’re going to do if they win the nomination, because putting out press releases blaming Republicans for what we all know is going to happen isn’t a winning strategy.
