“The Sheriff of Wall Street” as some have called him, finds himself
in a bit of a PR pickle today. I’m being kind. To add, MSNBC is reporting that federal prosecutors have text messages from the governor. This is not some ordinary governor, who is an Eliot Ness type.
Gov. Eliot Spitzer has informed his most senior administration officials
that he had been involved in a prostitution ring, an administration official
said this morning.Mr. Spitzer, who was huddled with his top aides inside his Fifth Avenue apartment
early this afternoon, had hours earlier abruptly canceled his scheduled public
events for the day. He scheduled an announcement for 2:15 after inquiries
from the Times. ….. But a person with knowledge of the governor’s role said that the
person believes the governor is one of the men identified as clients in court
papers. The governor’s travel records show that he was in Washington in mid-February.
One of the clients described in court papers arranged to meet with a prostitute
who was part of the ring, the Emperors Club VIP on the night of Feb. 13. …
..
Awaiting a news conference from the governor.
As usual on these types of things, money laundering is a big part of this story.
On another note, I’ve done over a decade’s worth of investigative work on the
sex industry, which began as a curiosity for personal reasons, then developed into something of a cause. It included the involvement of people you would never expect
to engage and frequent strip clubs, hire prostitutes, etc. The women involved
in “The Emperor’s Club” can cost from $1,000 – $5,000, though $10,000 is not out of the norm either, from what I’ve uncovered.
This is not unusual.
We’ll be talking about this and lots of other things on my radio show today.

UPDATE II: Spitzer’s press conference was an apology. It was not a resignation. He will “report back in short order.”
UPDATE: Fox News is reporting that Spitzer will resign and he’s been indicted, reportedly “client number 9.” developing…
