Outside help and all the money in the world didn’t get it done for Obama. He
had unions and outside expenditure groups. Plus, Obama outspent Clinton about
3 (or 4) to 1. It didn’t work. But when you look at Ohio there’s another problem.
You don’t win a general election in Ohio if you can only win in 5 counties.
I realize I’m speaking out against the other members in my tribe, the wealthy
post-graduate male clique of punditry, in pointing out Obama has a problem
in Ohio. So be it. – Jerome
Armstrong
The wealthy post-graduate male clique of punditry, oh, and let’s not
forget the Obama blogs. Armstrong wrote the exact post I was going to write
early this a.m., minus the the wealthy post-graduate male clique of punditry
part, because they’re irrelevant. So if this post reads the same you know why. The bottom line is obvious for all to see.
So with Pennsylvania looming large, does anyone think Clinton, with a lot of
hard work, can’t take that state, too? Ed Rendell is psyched now.
“Last night made clear that there has been a momentum shift in this
race. Despite being outspent two-to-one, despite Sen. Obama benefiting from
outside political funds, and despite all of the glowing press coverage he
received leading up to March 4th, voters ultimately chose Senator Clinton.
I am confident that Hillary is heading into Pennsylvania with momentum and
a new energy.“The people of Pennsylvania are focused on the two largest issues facing
our nation – the state of our economy and national security. On both
counts, Pennsylvanians understand how important it is to elect someone who
is truly ready to become President and Commander-in-Chief. Hillary is ready
to lead our nation, returning us to both prosperity and peace.“We look forward to making our voice heard in the coming days and playing
our part in determining the Democratic nominee. And when we do, the people
of Pennsylvania will send a clear message – we want a President who is ready,
not one we hope will one day be ready.”
Obama has won a lot of states, no doubt about it. He’ll win Wyoming probably.
Who cares? In November we won’t. Last night he got creamed in Ohio, absolutely
shellacked. No one knows what waits in Pennsylvania, but Democrats can’t win
in November without Ohio. Looking at Clinton’s rout in that state, it’s not hard to
postulate that some Democrats will have no problem becoming McCain Democrats
if Obama’s the nominee. It’s not all about words and math. It comes down to who can win.
The race reset last night. Ohio is a stark reminder of why winning red states in the primary doesn’t transfer to a general election victory, especially when you get creamed in a state like Ohio.
