Senator Diane Feinstein on Clinton, Texas and Ohio

The above video (here’s part
two
) was made by two high school students, Morgan Moncada and Alicia White,
which was sent to me through Murray Lipp, of The
Hillary Clinton Forum
. It’s a nice intro to a magnificent performance by Senator Diane Feinstein, a Clinton supporter, on Fox “News” Sunday opposite Senator Dick Durbin, an Obama supporter.

WALLACE: … ..Both campaigns — and let me start with you, Senator Feinstein — say that their opponent has to win both states on Super Tuesday 2. Who’s right?

FEINSTEIN: Well, I don’t think anybody’s right. I think we have to wait and
see how this plays out. There’s been a lot of talk — well, if Senator
Clinton loses this state, she should kind of pack it in. I disagree with that.
I think she should stay in the race. Her candidacy…

WALLACE: Even if she loses both…

FEINSTEIN: Her candidacy is extraordinarily important. If ever a
qualified woman could hold the presidency of the United States, this is the
qualified woman. And for those of us that are part of “a woman need not
apply” generation that goes back to the time I went out to get my first
job following college and a year of graduate work, this is an extraordinarily
critical race. And I hope she stays the course and stays in it. And then we
count up the delegate votes and we make a decision.

WALLACE: You talk about women. Do you think there’s been gender bias in this
campaign?

FEINSTEIN: I do. I do. I read the newspapers. I read a lot of newspapers.
I read a lot of columns. I’m amazed at the number that are spent on really
picayune things about Senator Clinton — her hair, her suits. And I think
some of this just drives toward the insecurity of having a woman running for
this office. If anyone is qualified to run for this office, Chris, Senator
Clinton is — eight years in the White House. Sure, it’s first lady.
I know that. You know Hillary. You know her interest in policy. You know her
care and concern about people. And most important, right now I think it’s
the economy and her knowledge of what’s happened to the middle class in the
last eight years and how you mend that and bring people up into becoming economically
upwardly mobile. That’s what we should be talking about, instead of —
I read a lot of stuff which is really irrelevant to the kind of president
she will be, and I think some of it is driven by the fact that it’s easy to
hit at a woman.

Reuters helped out with another
hit against Hillary
just recently.

There is a lot of talk by the men on Obama’s side, as well as those who hold
sway in the Democratic party for Clinton to drop out, even before a single vote
is cast in Texas and Ohio. I don’t know what will happen on Tuesday, no one
does. But it’s premature at best to be hinting about Clinton getting out of the race. Does anyone have the delegates needed to win this thing? It’s also anti democratic. But as sexist as
some progressives have revealed themselves to be, especially in the blogosphere, let’s just say I’m not surprised to hear
this coming from the men supporting Obama, even someone like Richardson, who isn’t exactly the paragon of liberation.

Or maybe all this effort to push Clinton out of the race from Obama’s team is because they’re just a little worried about the Rezko trial revving
up tomorrow? Segue to Lynn
Sweet of the Sun-Times
. The Rezko hits will likely play out for weeks:

The court is also expected to hear from John Thomas, an FBI mole, who reportedly
witnessed Mr Obama and Mr Blagojevich making frequent visits to Mr Rezko.
Judge Amy St Eve has said that she will allow prosecutors to offer evidence
that Mr Rezko directed two associates to make two $10,000 contributions to
Mr Obama’s 2004 senate campaign because he had already donated the legal
maximum.
