Obama Predicts Close Finish In Pennsylvania

Obama’s decided to go out on a limb.

On Halperin’s “The Page,” the above ad comes with the headline: Clinton
Plays the Terror Card in New Pennsylvania Ad.
Whether you like Halperin
or not, he was one of the first to come out and criticize Clinton’s coverage
by the media when no one else would.

Even more interesting is Obama’s
take one day before the big primary
:

“I think it’s going to be pretty close, we’re campaigning
pretty hard.”

Also tells KDKA radio, “I’m predicting it’s going to be
close and that we are going to do a lot better than people expect.”

If by “campaigning pretty hard” Obama means dumping mud, money and
everything else into the state, well, he’s correct. If Obama’s saying this out
loud, his team obviously has to have some internals that point to some sort
of surge due to new registrants.

That said, I’m not buying it. All of the polls point otherwise, as does the
history of the Clinton’s in Pennsylvania. In addition, no one has more sway
in the state than Ed Rendell. Frankly, if Obama doesn’t hold Clinton to around
5-7 points after all he’s done and the money he’s spent, he and his team are
going to be embarrassed. However, if he does keep the race close as he’s touting,
Clinton will be greeted with the superdelegate dam breaking, which she obviously
can’t afford. What’s even more important is the popular vote. Without it, Clinton’s
argument for the nomination is really thin.

Many are already looking forward to Indiana as the big tie breaking state.
I’d say tomorrow is even bigger. It has the potential of lifting Clinton way
up or… .. and even though I don’t do predictions, I’d bet the undecideds go Clinton’s way. If they do, expect a double digit win tomorrow. Anything 10 points (or more), given Obama’s hard press in PA., should be considered a landslide.
