Hillary in Florida

Guest post by Scan

“I’ve heard some say that counting Florida and Michigan would be changing the rules. I say that not counting Florida and Michigan is changing a central governing rule of this country.”

Presumptive popular vote winner Hillary Clinton, fresh from the 35-point thumping of Barack Obama in Kentucky, is campaigning in Florida today. This afternoon in Boca Raton, in a speech carried by the networks, she forcefully argued for the seating of the Florida and Michigan delegates. A key point was that not a single rule was broken by the voters, and that they should not be punished for matters beyond their control.

This was a powerful argument, but it didn’t stop there:

We carry on this cause for a simple reason…because we believe the outcome of our elections should be determined by the will of the people…nothing more, nothing less.

We believe the popular vote is the truest expression of your will. We believe it today just as we believed it back in 2000, when right here in Florida, you learned the hard way what happens when your votes aren’t counted and the candidate with fewer votes is declared the winner.

The lesson of 2000 here in Florida is crystal clear: If any votes aren’t counted, the will of the people isn’t realized and our democracy is diminished.

It was a great speech, and I’m with Big Tent Democrat on this one:

He has handed Hillary Clinton the most appealing battle cry a politician could possibly have – count the votes. Donna Brazile and Keith Olbermann and the other Obama surrogates can scream about the RULZ. Hillary Clinton can fight for the votes!

Just a supremely stupid move by the Barack Obama campaign.

Obama is also in the state today for some campaign events. But personally, I’m amazed that he can even show his face there after working to shut out their voice in this nominating contest. Florida Democrats remember now and they will remember in the fall.

In Florida today, its advantage Hillary.
