Here’s a blazing Letterman performance from one of my all-time favorite bands – Sleater-Kinney.

This band was explosive, and I’ll have to watch myself or I’ll go on and on about them. Starting around 1996, they had a decade-long run as one of the most critically-acclaimed bands in rock. Named as the best band in America by Time and the best band in the world by Esquire, they are also probably the greatest all-female rock band ever.

I tended to agree with those assessments, as their March 1999 performance in Austin may well be the most thrilling rock show I’ve ever attended.

Though the band went on indefinite hiatus in the summer of 2006, they (seemingly) ended their run with a certified masterpiece, 2005′s The Woods. It’s called ‘going out with a bang’. When the critics discuss the best albums of this decade, I have no doubt that this will be right up there.

This song comes from that album and it’s called “Jumpers”.

From their 1970 debut album, here’s Funkadelic with “I Got a Thing, You Got a Thing, Everybody’s Got a Thing”.

Most famous for their One Nation Under a Groove era, not everyone knows that Funkadelic sounded this raw and heavy in their early days. Theirs was a very powerful and unusual sound. I highly recommend their 1971 album Maggot Brain, which includes the unforgettable 10-minute title track, the uplifting soul of “Can You Get To That” and the mind-melting rock of “Super Stupid”.

This clip is amazing and hilarious. With the clean-cut host introducing the band alongside acts such as Bobby Sherman and John Denver, America had no idea what was in store for it! Pay attention to the lyrics…it’s got a great message, too.

Open thread. How’s everyone doing tonight?

This is my progressive fight song… “Children of the Revolution” by T.Rex. If this doesn't pump you up for Tuesday, I'm not sure what will. This song is huge.

“Children of the Revolution” was released as a single in 1972, and is not featured on an official T.Rex album, though it should be on all of his greatest hits compilations. A great album I'd recommend from them is Electric Warrior from 1971.

Rest in peace, Marc Bolan. A true rocker.
