Walking and Chewing Gum at the Same Time

BY TAYLOR MARSH

Clinton isn’t going anywhere until we have a nominee. Neither am I. If she
prevails I will work to get her elected president. If she doesn’t I will work
to defeat John McCain, which is job one. Guess what? So will she.

Clinton is fighting to count the votes of Michigan and Florida. So am I. We
stand together.

The Democratic Party is not where my allegiance lies. It’s the principles the
party has stood for going back to F.D.R., then Truman, then John F. Kennedy
that keeps me focused. Hillary Clinton too. We’re alike in
that way. We both believe the Democratic Party is a means by which we can
change this country and the world. She can do it in large ways. I do it however
I can. But we’re both committed to the same ends. Nothing will change that fact,
certainly not a primary season or one election. It’s the cause of our lives.

So it was with interest I read the back and forth in the comments last night.

Taylor’s “giving up!”

She’s throwing in the towel!

She’s “hoisting the white flag!”

Good grief. Some of you really need to get a grip.

Of course, LChris
gets it, as does Grey and Nebraskablue
was also particularly insightful. There’s krc,
plus a few others like destardi, but it’s no wonder PhxNickD
was confused. Because as hard as I’ve fought for Hillary in this election season, while taking enough grief to go around, it’s
positively ludicrous for anyone to think I’d walk away from Clinton before we’ve
got a nominee, whether it’s Hillary or Obama. What kind of person would do that?
Not me.

What I talk about on my radio show or write on this blog is political analysis.
I simply tell the truth as I see it. If you judge it as “gloomy,”
well, reality bites. That’s what you get from me, regardless of who I’m supporting.
I can analyze what I see happening, which includes the rumblings and rumors,
as well as maneuvers taking place behind the scenes, then paint the picture,
all the while knowing that the strongest candidate for Democrats in November
is Hillary Clinton, regardless of what’s swirling around. It’s just I won’t
leave out the reality we’re all facing in the midst of Hillary Clinton’s fight
to make her case that the popular vote matters, as does who can win the swing
states and has a surer path to the presidency.

Holding conflicting ideas in your head at the same time and being able to reconcile
them (or waiting until they are) is what I do every day. It’s not for some of
you, I understand, but that won’t stop me from doing it, because it’s the only
way I work. Going forward you’ll read what’s playing out, what people are thinking about and many things beyond. Hold on, it’s going to be a bumpy ride. We’re coming near the end. If you don’t already know that then you’re in for a shock, no matter the finale.

Telling the truth and analyzing the facts is separate from
my strong beliefs. Besides, the battle I wage never ends. Another thing on which
I’m sure Hillary and I agree.
