Welcome To My World

BY TAYLOR MARSH
from Washington, D.C.

Today has been very interesting. It’s also been revealing, even liberating.

Taylor your headlines seem to continually be in favor of Obama. And you ran
a story knocking her gas tax break. I had thought you were a Clinton supporter.
I don’t understand and am very disappointed. Of course I am also angry and
pissed off as well. You feel like you have turned into a concern troll yourself.
If you are still a Clinton supporter, please use headlines that are supportive.
You could have for instance this morning said Hillary wins Indiana. which
she did. instead this little noxious worrisome thing that once again wheels
are being lost. please stop if you actually care. which i have the feeling
you actually don’t. – Sue Norde (via email)

First, for the dense, “headlines” mean just that. Headlines. It’s
what is being said in the news, pictures included. What’s being seen and said in
the larger media, including some blogs that are worthy of being cited. Slamming
the messenger in infantile. Hey, but knock yourselves out. So now I’m getting
hate mail from Obama and Clinton supporters. Swell.

Additionally, I’m not a cheerleader, folks. In the end I’m coldly pragmatic.
I’m a political analyst first. If you’re looking for a political den mother
you long ago misconstrued my purpose and my passion. The reason Clinton is my candidate
is not because I’m simply some fan. Hillary is my candidate because she’s got
a brilliant mind, is a fighter, and I believe the only candidate who can bring
Americans back who have been voting against their economic interests for decades.
I believe only she can expand the party to Latinos, as well as bring women out
in droves, including Republican women, independents and women who have never voted before. If I didn’t believe Clinton was a winner I
would never have backed her in the first place.

In addition, some commenters are blithely stating they will bail on this site, me and
the work I do, including my efforts to get back on radio, if Obama is the nominee and this site and my commentary becomes
“pro Obama.” I’m being asked in emails, plus comments, amidst the
hate screeds from Obamabots, by Hillary supporters what I will do “if”
Obama wins the nomination. I’ll let you know when that happens. I’m working
through all this myself, in case you’re not aware of the obvious.

I will say this much. I am a fighter for Democratic and progressive causes.
I will fight against John McCain’s candidacy with every fiber of my being.

Hey there. Loved the top of your site today pointing out the Republican disaster
and can’t wait to have your wonderful talent focused on McCain. And you’re
quite a fighter. Thanks. – Tony (reader email)

That said, since I can’t make the case for Senator Obama now, I won’t be making
it later. His fans will have to do that. There is no way I can ethically or
in good conscience turn 180 degrees to start touting him. But I can and will
stand up for Democratic principles. So the focus will be on making sure John
McCain is not elected.

As for why Obama supporters, which some of you call “trolls” will
continue to be welcomed here, it’s because discourse in the Democratic party
between our camps is important. If you don’t want to talk to them don’t.

I am an Obama supporter and decided to come here and just see how welcome
I might be as a woman who switched from Hillary to Obama because of issues
I saw after Hillary started campaigning. I want a woman in the White House
but NOT Hillary. Convince me I am wrong. – Pam (via comments)

This blog is part of the reality based community. I’m a political analyst who
also plays an independent journalist role. If you don’t like it or the truth then
you shouldn’t be reading this blog, supporting this site, or helping me to get
back on radio. I value this community, including when we disagree. That some
readers don’t value the work I do beyond what they think my role should be,
which is a Clinton cheerleader, well, that says more about them than me.

I’m an American first, a Democrat second. Clinton is the only candidate I believe
in. But this country cannot withstand a McCain presidency. That’s the bottom
line.

Hi Taylor, I see it happening already. The Clinton supporters are asking
you what you are going to blog about if Obama gets the nomination. It’s been
a wild ride since your blog took an obviously pro-Clinton slant…tons of
new posters and supporters. From my posts you can see that I am a Clinton
supporter, but I am a Democrat first. If Obama wins, then I am damn well gonna
try to have him beat McCain. I think you have similar sensibilities. But the
crowd is clammoring for you to bash Obama. I read this
on TalkLeft
. That seems to be the way to go. Put it all against McCain
from here on in, no matter what happens with the Dem nomination. Just 2cents
from a long-time TM reader. – Joe (via email)

All against McCain it will be.
